The Mistakes We Made

Forgiven, or Not

It has been a few days since Ben told Miranda everything that happened, and since Dani was rushed to the hospital. They were all home now and Miranda still hadn't responded to what Ben had told her. "Miranda can we talk?" Ben asked as he walked towards the couch where Miranda and Dani were sitting.
"I'm about to leave soon." Miranda said keeping her eyes locked on Dani who was staring at the TV.
"Where are you going?"
"To the hospital. "
Ben chuckled "No you're not."
"What do you mean I have to work today." Miranda said slightly annoyed.
"Last night you called Richard and asked him to cover for you today." Miranda's face turned to shock not knowing Ben heard her conversation with Richard, "so where are you going?" Ben was standing in front of Miranda with his arms crossed.
"Fine I wasn't going anywhere, but I don't want to talk right now."
"Miranda it's been 3 days we need to talk eventually. "
"Not today, please."
"Then when?" Ben sat next to Miranda on the couch.
"When I'm ready. Today i'm not ready."
Ben sighed "Ok well I'm going to the station. Just let me know when you are ready.
Miranda shook her head. Ben walked over the the counter and grabbed his bag. He gave Dani a kiss on the top of her head before heading out the door. "Looks like it's just you and me today." Miranda said looking down at Dani who still had her eyes locked on the TV.
Miranda looked down at her daughter smiling, but her smile quickly faded when she saw the scar on her chest from her heart transplant. It brought Miranda to tears and made her realize even more just how strong her daughter was.
FLASHBACK
-2 years ago
The day Dani was born was hectic for both Miranda and Ben. Miranda had an emergency c-section and Ben was trapped inside of a burning building. Dani was 8 weeks premature which meant that her lungs and heart were not fully developed, and on top of that she already had a heart defect. Dani was placed in the NICU(neonatal intensive care unit.), and Miranda was alone scared for her daughters life and her husbands.
A couple hours later Ben came running into the hospital making his way to Miranda's room. The door flew open which made Miranda jump a little. When she saw Ben she started feeling a little better. "Where is she?" Ben asked walked towards Miranda.
"They put her in the NICU. Dr.Hayes is worried about her heart and lungs but mainly her heart." Miranda responded wiping her face.
"Hey she's going to be ok." Ben lifted up Miranda's head to make eye contact, "she's strong just like you."
Miranda broke a small smile. Ben kissed her on the check and held on to her hand never wanting to let go.
END FLASHBACK
Miranda was caught up in her thoughts but was snapped out of them with Dani patting her leg and the doorbell ringing. "Let's go see who's at the door." Miranda said in a playful voice while picking up Dani. Miranda opened the door and saw Tuck standing in the doorway.
"Hey mama." Tuck said hugging Miranda.
"Hey baby." Miranda replied hugging him back.
Tuck walked into the house with his father right behind him. "Tucker?" Miranda asked confused,"what are you doing here?"
"We need to talk." Tucker said looking into her eyes.
"Can you take her?" Miranda asked Tuck handing Dani to him.
Tuck shook his head and walked up the stairs whispering to his little sister which made her laugh.
"So what's going on?" Miranda asked sitting on the couch.
"I just wanted to let you know that i'm moving to Chicago next year, and I plan on taking Tuck with me." Tucker said looking down at the ground then back up at Miranda.
Miranda chuckled. "Did you forget that your son is graduating this year? He's going away to college next year."
"W-well what about holidays, where would he go then?" Tucker stuttered out.
"Tucker that's up to him, we can't decide where HE wants to go. Are you ok?"
"I'm fine!"
"Ok then. Is that all you wanted to talk about?"
"Yeah i'll see myself out." Tucker walked towards the door and walked out closing it behind him.
Tuck came walk down the stairs with his head buried in his phone, which almost cause he to trip.
"Be careful boy!" Miranda yelled out.
Tuck chuckled "I'm good ma."
"Mhmm." Miranda stared at Tuck which made him start laughing harder, "what's going on with your dad?"
"Umm. Grace is leaving him, they're getting a divorce."
"Oh." Miranda said not really caring,"anyways enough about hun, how was the trip, did you see any schools you liked?"
"Yeah I did, but i'm still considering stay in Seattle for college. "
"As long as you get your education I don't care what school you go to."
Tuck looked up at his mom with a smile on his face. Miranda Heard Dani moving around upstairs. "I'm going to check on your sister." Miranda said standing up from the stool next to Tuck. Tuck nodded his head and looked back down at his phone.

A few hours later Ben returned home from the station to a quiet house. He didn't want to call out because he thought Dani might be sleep. Ben walked up they stairs to the bedroom and saw Miranda and Dani both sitting on the bed  Dani was giggling which made Ben laugh to himself. He loved hearing his daughters laugh, it made him feel better. When Miranda realized that Ben was standing at the door her smile quickly faded."What are you doing here?" she asked gripping Dani tighter.
"I live here don't I?" Ben asked sarcastically.
"You're not funny." Miranda stood up from the bed with Dani on her hip," i'm going to go put her down." Miranda walked out the room while Ben walked inside. He got undressed and laid in the bed waiting for Miranda to come back.
Miranda came back into the room without looking at Ben. "Miranda." Ben said trying to grab her arm but she moved it away.
"Not today Ben. I told you i'm not ready." Miranda said turning out the light on her dresser, and laying down away from Ben.
Ben was shocked and stayed up wondering what he did wrong. He told her the truth, but he eventually fell asleep.

The next morning Ben woke up to an empty bed. He quickly got out of the bed and walked downstairs to see Tuck, Miranda, and Dani all sitting down eating breakfast. "Why didn't anyone wake me." Ben says walking towards where Dani was sitting.
"Mom said you had a long day and said you need sleep." Tuck said placing his plate in the sink, "I have to go or i'll be late. Bye ma bye Ben. " Tuck grab us bag and keys and walked out the door.
"Miranda wh-." Miranda cut him off.
"I need to leave soon too I'm going back to work today. "Miranda said as she washed the dishes.
"Oh ok. Do you want  me to keep her today?" Ben asked as he pointed towards Dani.
"No i'll take her with me."
"Miranda it's fine she can stay here with me."
"I got her. She is my daughter after all." Miranda said rolling her eyes.
"She's my daughter too Miranda." Be walked closer to Miranda.
"Well i carried her for 9 damn months."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"Benjamin. I'm not going to argue with you this morning. I have to go." Miranda passed Ben and grabbed Dani and her bag then walked out of the door. Leaving Ben standing in the middle of the room once again confused at why they were fighting in the first place. This was going to be a long day.

I'm finally updating this story😃 Sorry for taking so long. I honestly couldn't think of what to do for this chapter, and it's not the best but that's ok😃. Apparently i have inspiration at 12am so yea😃
