The Mistakes We Made

Apologies

The rest of the day was going good for Miranda and Dani until it wasn't. If you don't remember Dani was born with heart problems and had a heart transplant when she was 1. Miranda being the doctor mother she was always looked out for her daughter except for today.
Miranda decided to take Dani to the park because it was getting pretty boring at the house. When the arrived at the park Miranda sat at a bench and told Dani to stay where she could see her. She watched her daughter run around the park with a big smile. Miranda looked down at her phone for one minute then all of a sudden she heard screaming and a lot of chaos. When she looked up to see what was going on everyone was surrounded by one child who was laying on the ground and breathing funny. Miranda looked around to see where Dani had went, and she didn't see her. When she got closer to the child on the ground she realized it was Dani. "Dani! Oh my God!" she ran the the side of her daughter, "call 9-1-1!" she yelled trying to keep it together. When the ambulance came they took Dani and Miranda to Grey Sloan Memorial where they met Dr.Hayes to discuss what happened.
"Her scans look good." Dr.Hayes said as he held the scans up to the light.
"Well something is wrong." Miranda said slightly annoyed.
"A heart transplant is not easy especially with her age. Her body is still developing so there might be a few times this happens, and in a few years when she's older she might need a second transplant. "
Miranda took a deep breathe "How do I prevent this from happening again. She's young I want her to live a little and not be locked up at home all the time."
"Dr.Bailey to be completely honest you can't really prevent it from happening because you don't know when it will happen. Just keep an eye on her and don't let her do to much physical activity these next couple weeks just to give her heart a rest."
"Thank you."
Dr.Hayes shook his head and walked out the door. As Miranda layed next to Dani stroking her head she say the door swing open, it was Ben. "What are you doing here?" Miranda quickly stood up.
"Is she ok?" Ben said ignoring Miranda's question.
"Yes she's going to be fine."
"I'm glad she's going to be ok." Ben paused,"we still need to talk Miranda."'
"Not here. Not now."
"Then when! Whenever I try to talk to you you shut me out so I don't know of any other time we can talk."
"I don't have anything to say to you."
"Then just listen."
Miranda rolled her eyes.
"Please Miranda."
"Fine." Miranda sat back down while holding on to Danis hand who was now sound asleep.
"Ok the night you saw me and Jess was not what it looked like. She put herself on me and you just came in at the wrong time. I promise I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you."
FLASHBACK

Ben and the rest of the station had came back from one of the biggest and most difficult fires they've ever had to face. It was so big that it hit the news. The rest of the crew went to go shower and sleep Ben stayed back because Miranda called worried and anxious."Miranda i'm fine I promise." Ben said with a slight chuckle.
"Mhmm i'm coming down to the station just so I can see that you're ok for myself." Miranda said from the other side of the phone.
"You don't have to come. I promise i'm fine."
"I'm still coming. I'll see you in 20. Love you."
Ben laughed "I love you too."
When Ben hung up the phone he saw Jess standing right in front of him. "Shouldn't you be showering?" Ben asked stepping back.
"Shouldn't you?" Jess asked smiling.
"Miranda called, she was worried. She heard about the fire and wanted to see if I was ok."
"Oh well I guess i'll meet you up there." Jess smirked at Ben before walking up the stairs. Ben shook his head and just laughed it off.
When everyone finished their shower they all headed to bed except for Ben because he was still waiting for Miranda to come. He walked into the kitchen area and sat at the table. He was staring at his phone when he heard someone come in. He thought it was Miranda but it wasn't. "What are you following me now?"
"No." Jess nervously laughed.
"You should go to sleep, go get some rest for tomorrow."
"How come I have to but you don't?"
"I'm waiting for my wife."
Jess got closer to Ben and whispered in his ear,"Wanna have some fun?"
Ben quickly got up from his seat in anger "What the hell! No I don't please leave now!"
"Why our bond is so strong. We should be together." Jess got even closer. The more Ben stepped back the closer she got.
"Jessica I am married! Please leave me the hell alone!"
Jess kissed Ben so quick he didn't have time to react. He quickly pushed her off but he was to late.
"What the Hell!" Miranda yelled from the door way. She turned around and walked out
"Miranda wait!" Ben called out as he chased after her, "you stay the hell away from me!" Ben pointed at Jess who was looking embarrassed.
Ben caught up to Miranda before she left." Miranda!" he called out, "Miranda wait please."
She slowly turned around. "So that's why you're never home because you're out with that girl. It's ok I understand." Miranda shook her head.
"Miranda no please let me explain." Ben said reaching for her hand.
Miranda quickly pulled away."Save it! I'm going home!" She walked out the door and left Ben standing there angry and hurt.
END OF FLASHBACK
"Please Miranda please believe that I would never hurt you. I love you." Ben was sitting next to her.
"What about that night you said you were on a call. you told me that it was a four alarm fire which I believed, but now that I think about it. If there was an actual fire I would have been paged to come in, so where were you?"
"I was with Jess."
Miranda started to get up. "Wait." Ben held her back, "I was at the hospital with her. She beat cancer twice and she was getting her scans back to see if she was still cancer free. She didn't want to do alone so she asked me to come with her, and I didn't say no because that's what friends do for each other. I'm sorry I'm sorry I lied to you about where I was, but that's the truth."
Miranda sat back in her seat and stayed quiet. She was about to say something when Dani started to wake up. "Mama?" Dani said with a groggy voice.
"Hi baby girl." Miranda said moving closer to the hospital bed.
Ben and Miranda both layed on each side of the bed with Dani in the middle. They put there problems aside and stayed focused on their daughter. This was the first time they were together for a while, and they decided to treasure the moment for as long as they could.
