Miranda sat on her bed so caught up in her thoughts she didn't even realize that Dani was standing in front of her. "Mama!" she called out as she tapped Miranda on her leg shaking her out of her thoughts.
"Good morning baby girl. You ready for breakfast?" Miranda asked as she picked Dani up.
Dani shook her head with a huge smile on her face.
"Alright let's go make breakfast." Miranda said as she walked out of her room downstairs to the kitchen.
She sat Dani in her high chair then walked over to the refrigerator and started pulling things out. "How about eggs, sausage, and waffles?" Miranda asked out loud but Dani wasn't paying her any mind, "I guess that's a yes?" Miranda chuckled at herself. She looked at Dani who was in her own little world, she saw Ben in her and that brought her to tears but she pulled it together quickly.
As Miranda was cooking she heard the door open and say Ben walk in. Her smile quickly faded. "What are you doing home?" She asked keeping her eyes on the stove.
"I came here to get some more clothes and see my daughter. Is that ok with you or should I have called first?" Ben asked walking over to where Dani was sitting.
"Benjamin." Miranda shook her head.
"I won't be here soon, i'll be out your way." Ben picked Dani up and walked upstairs.
FLASH BACK
3 weeks ago-
Miranda got off of work early and decided to go see Ben at the station. She stopped and got donuts before making her way to the station. When Miranda got there it was quiet inside and no one was around "They must be on a call." Miranda was about to walk out when she heard laughter coming from upstairs. When she made it to the top of the stairs she saw Ben sitting at the table with another person. Miranda had never seen her before she was tall ,light skinned, and had her hair up in a bun. "Hey." Miranda said as she walks towards the table.
"Hey baby." Ben said walking towards Miranda kissing her on the cheek.
"Who is that?" Miranda whispered to Ben as she sat down.
Ben chuckled to himself "Jess this is my wife Miranda, Miranda Jess."
"Nice to meet you." Miranda said looking at Jess.
"Nice to meet you too." Jess responded
There was an awkward silence for a minute. "So are the others on a call?" Miranda asked breaking the silence.
"Yea." Ben responded sliding the donut box towards him.
"Then why are you guys here?"
"I'm the probie here and they told Warren to show me around, so  stuff that's why we're here and the others are out fighting fires."Jess turned towards Ben, "which is what we should be doing too I'm ready." Jess tapped on Bens arm.
Ben chuckled."Why don't you go make yourself useful."
Jess got up from the table laughing. Ben looked over at Miranda who was staring at him. "What?" Ben asked as he stuffed his face with a donut.
"Nothing." Miranda shook her head.
Ben and Miranda sat at the table for a while. They talked and shared laughs. It felt like they hadn't seen each other in forever which they hadn't because they've had opposite schedules all week. "I need to go pick Dani up from daycare." Miranda said standing up from her seat.
"Oh ok." Ben said as he stood up too.
"Will I see you tonight?"
"Yea my shift is over in a few hours I should be home early today."
"Ok love you."
"Love you too."
Ben and Miranda kissed then they parted ways.
Miranda picked Dani up from day care and headed home. When they made it home Miranda made dinner for the both of them then they sat on the couch and watched a movie while they ate. Once they finished eating Miranda got Dani ready for bed then Miranda got herself ready for bed as well.
It started to get late and Miranda was worried because Ben wasn't home yet. She called his phone but he didn't answer. "Maybe there was a call before his shift ended." Miranda thought to herself to calm her down.
A couple hours later Miranda heard the back door open, she quickly got out of bed and went downstairs. "Did I wake you?" Ben asked as he took his bag off his shoulder.
"I wasn't sleep. I couldn't sleep you said you would be home early, what happened?" Miranda asked.
"I'm sorry baby there was a call right before my shift ended it was a four alarm fire so it was a lot."
"Shoot me a text next time so I can got to sleep." Miranda kisses Ben then walked back upstairs so she can finally get some sleep.
Ben walked over to the fridge to see what he can eat quick when he got a text from Jess.
"Tonight meant a lot to me thank you so much for being there."
Ben smiled reading the text then texted her back "Of course that's what friends are for. Call me if you need anything."
END FLASHBACK
"Miranda!" Ben called out making Miranda jump a little.
"What the hell do you want?" Miranda said pushing Ben out of the way.
"The food is burning, are you ok? I've been calling your name for the past 5 minutes."
"That night you came home late 3 weeks ago and you said it was a four alarm fire were you with her that night?" Miranda asked with a pissed look on her face.
"Miranda." Ben paused, "Please we have to talk eventually but not now."
"So you were with her. You lied to me?"
"Look I have to get back to the station. We can talk tomorrow." Ben walked over to where Dani was sitting, "bye baby girl I'll see you later." he kissed her on her forehead.
"Bye daddy." Dani said as she hugged him
Ben walked towards the door and looked back at Miranda. She looked angry and hurt. Ben shook his head and walked out knowing he messed up and didn't know how he was going to fix it.
