Ellen Pompeo woke up in a cold bed, like she has for the past 6 years. She hated waking up alone, but the one true man she wanted to wake up next to happened to be her best friend, and she didn't want to ruin their friendship.
Ellen stood up from the bed, relieving it of her small weight, and went into the bathroom. She turned on the shower and stripped her clothes, stepping in to the hot spray of water.
She washed her hair and her body with lavender scented body wash, and lavender scented shampoo and conditioner. After she washed her body and hair, she stepped out and wrapped a big fluffy towel around her lithe body. She quickly changed into a pair of jeans and a purple sweater and jogged downstairs.
Checking the time, she realized she wouldn't have time to eat breakfast, so she grabbed her purse and ran out the door into her car. She drove off, looking forward to a day she got to spend with Patrick. She loved filming with him, and just being around him.
She pulled up to the stop sign at the intersection and sighed. Hearing horns and skidding, she looked to her right and her eyes went wide as she saw a car going full speed into her car. She covered her head just as the car slammed into her car. Her small body got whipped around, hitting her head on the window and dashboard. She could feel the sharp debris and shrapnel digging into her stomach before losing consciousness.
Patrick Dempsey was more than ready to be in a relationship. The problem is that the woman he wanted to be in a relationship was his best friend. He didn't want to ruin that friendship. Little did he know that his best friend felt the same way.
He dragged his body out of bed and into the bathroom, where he showered and got himself ready for the day.
He jogged downstairs and quickly shoveled a piece of toast in his mouth and went to his Porsche. He turned on the ignition and drove off, excited for his day with Ellen.
He pulled up to set and got out. He locked his car and made his way to the trailer. He opened the door to his trailer, expecting to see his best friend, frowning when he didn't see her beautiful face. He didn't see her bag or anything. He got a bad feeling his gut, knowing that Ellen was always early. He shook it off, figuring she was just running late. He exited the trailer and walked to film his scenes.
"Patrick!" Shonda yelled. He walked over to Shonda and the rest of their co stars. "Where's Ellen?" She asked. "I don't know. She wasn't in the trailer." I replied, really worrying now that no one knew where she was. "Should we call her?" Sandra asked. I nodded. I pulled out my phone and dialed her number. I put the phone on speaker and we just waited. "Hey, this is Ellen Pompeo. Sorry I couldn't answer the phone right now, I'll call you when I can." Her voicemail said. I sighed and put the phone away.
"Okay. She's probably just running late and overslept. Lets film some scenes that she's not in now." Shonda instructed. I nodded and went off to work.
An hour later, when Patrick was filming a scene with Eric and Chyler, his phone rang. He looked at it, not recognizing the number. He muttered an apology and went in a corner to take the call. "Hello?" He asked. "Patrick Dempsey?" A female said into the phone. "Yes?" He asked, confused. "Hi, this is Nurse Laura calling from St Monica hospital. Your listed as Ellen Pompeos emergency contact." The nurse said. "Is she okay?" Heasked worriedly. "She was broadsided by a drunk driver this morning. I don't know the extent of her injuries, but I think you need to get here as soon as possible." She said. "I'll be there in 10." He said as he hung up the phone.
"Patrick? What's wrong?" Shonda asked, noticing his frantic expression. "El was in a car accident. I gotta go." Patrick said. "Is she okay?" Chyler asked. "I don't know. I'm her emergency contact. I gotta go." Patrick said as he started jogging to his car, everyone following.
"The days over everyone! Go home or come to the hospital with us!" Shonda announced. Patrick got into his car and raced off to the hospital. The fear of losing his best friend and lover was almost too much.
He pulled into the hospital parking lot and ran inside. "Where is she?" He asked frantically. "What's the patients name sir?" The receptionist asked in a calming voice. "Ellen. Ellen Pompeo." Patrick said. "Right. Room 103 right down the hall." She said. Patrick ran off and stopped at her door.
Patrick's heart broke when he saw her intubated and bandages from head to toe. He Ignored what he assumed was the surgeon and went right to her bed and grabbed her hand, which seemed to be the only non broken thing on her body. "Sir? Would you like to hear her injuries?" The surgeon, doctor bode asked. Patrick nodded. "Well she was broad sided by a drunk driver. The car hit her side. We think she smashed her head on the window and dashboard many times. Luckily, she did not have any bleeds, but she does have a severe concussion, probably grade 3. Her right leg was completely crushed in the accident, we had to go In and fix that. She had some internal bleeding, which we also had to go in and fix. Her right arm is Broken, and she has 3 broken ribs. She hasn't woken up yet, but I presume she will soon." Doctor Bode said.
Patrick's heart broke for Ellen. The doctor left the room, leaving only him and her. "Wake up El. Show me those beautiful eyes." He whispered. He gently stroked her left arm, waiting for her to wake up. She looked so fragile, so small in the hospital bed.
"Patrick." Shonda whispered at the door. He turned around and frowned. "What the hell happened?" She asked as she entered the room. "Car accident. Drunk driver." Patrick said. Our director, and a nurse in real life, Linda Klein, grabbed the chart and gasped at her injuries. "God." She muttered.
Patrick felt a squeeze on his hand and looked down at El. "El?" He asked. "I think she's waking up." He said out loud. "El, take your time. You're okay." He murmered. Ellen stirred again and slowly opened her eyes. She immediately started choking on the tube, tears filling her eyes. Patrick was quick to wipe them away. Ellen grasped his hand tightly.
Ellen was very confused and in pain. She saw Patrick , which calmed her down a little bit. "The tube will be out soon, el. Just relax." Patrick said. Ellen squeezed his hand tighter, wanting to be close to him. "Ms Pompeo. Nice to see you awake. How bout we get that tube out?" Doctor bode said. Ellen nodded to the best of her abilities. The doctor instructed Ellen on what to do, and the tube came flying out. Ellen started coughing roughly. Patrick tried to soothe her by rubbing her back.
The doctor held up a glass of water and she eagerly sipped the straw. She pushed away the water when she was done and looked at Patrick. "Hi." She whispered. "Hi." He replied. He kissed her forehead gently and smiled.
