Detention

Harry and I begrudgingly made our way up to Umbridge's office; I had Ginny tell Cedric that I would meet up with him later so he wouldn't think I had ditched him. I really didn't want to go to detention, and Harry didn't either. After opening the door we saw nothing but pink. It smelled like dust and cat hair. There were about thirty ceramic plates on the walls that had moving cats in a chorus of meows; maybe listening to the cats was part of our punishment. Umbridge was sitting at her desk stirring a cup of tea. "Welcome Mr. Potter and Miss Weasley," she said in her false friendly tone. "Good evening Professor," I mumbled. Harry nodded to acknowledge her. "You two will be doing lines for me, take out a piece of parchment, and write 'I must not tell lies.'" "How many times?" Harry asked taking out a piece of paper, and I got out a piece of paper as well. "As long as it takes for it to sink in," she said with a smug smile. Harry and I got out our quills and ink bottles, but we were stopped. "No no dears, you two will be using a special one of my quills," she handed us two silver quills with a pointed nib. "You didn't give us any ink," Harry told her. "You won't need any ink," she said amused.

Harry and as I started to write what we were instructed to do so, and suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my other hand. I looked at my hand and saw the words 'I must not tell lies," cut into my hand. Blood was starting to pool where it was cut. I looked over and saw Harry getting the same cuts on his hand. He was wincing in pain, and the pain was getting worse for me the longer I wrote. There were angry lines of pain on my hand where the dreaded phrase was being carved into my hand. What she was doing to us couldn't possibly be legal! Us wincing in pain seemed to bring a smile to her face, and not a fake smile like she had been using around the school, but a real genuine smile. I was frightened of her. "Yes?" she asked with her blue eyes lighting up. "Nothing," Harry and I said at the same time. "That's right, it is nothing. Deep down, you both know that you deserve to be punished. You may go." She dismissed.

I practically ran out of the office leaving Harry behind. My hand was stinging with pain. I made my way outside to where Cedric was. He was sitting in our favorite spot under the tree. He instantly grew worried and got up to hug me. "Are you okay, Lydia?" he asked holding me close. I shakily pulled back the sleeve on my robes and showed him the cuts on my hand. "This was the punishment, she accused me and Harry of lying about the events of last year." I said in a shaking voice. My hand was stinging worse than ever. Cedric looked at the cuts and lovingly stroked my hand to ease the pain. "Here, let me help you," he took his wand out of his robes pocket and gently laid it on the cuts, "Episkey." the cuts instantly started to fade away and the pain was gone. It was as if the cuts were never there in the first place. I looked at him gratefully and I hugged him once again, "Thank you," "You're welcome, Lyddie." he kissed the top of my head and he stroked my face and then he kissed me. I forgot about the horrific detention I went through. My hatred for Umbridge grew along with my fear of her, but I wouldn't let her terrorize any other students.
