The situation seemed to deteriorate with each poster Filch put up on the walls. The latest was Umbridge's announcement that she was recruiting for her Inquisitorial Squad. Half of Slytherin House was scrambling to sign up at her office. I knew this wasn't going well.

Over the next couple of weeks, the D.A. kept their eyes open for anyone who was spying on us. I was getting scared that we would be caught and face Umbridge's wrath. I even considered asking Harry if I could borrow his Invisibility Cloak.

Between our studies, Cedric and I were able to spend more time together, and he had been the busiest because he was preparing for graduation. While it would be sad not to be with him next year for school, we promised to spend every moment possible together, including holidays. He has also promised to come see me.

My head resting against his shoulder, I thought, "What a year this has been.". As he stroked my hair, he kissed my forehead, "I couldn't agree more.". I looked at him, "Can I tell you something? Promise you won't judge me?" I had been getting a weird vibe from Umbridge lately. He smiled, "I wouldn't judge you." "There's something off about Umbridge." I informed him. He replied, "She is very cruel, and it is suspicious that the Ministry is suddenly trying to take control of the school." "My dad said they're being extra restrictive at the Ministry now, no Muggle-borns allowed."

"Yes, my dad runs the Department of Muggle Artifacts, and Fudge is considering closing them." I couldn't bear to think that Dad could possibly be out of a job because we were barely getting by as it was. "The Ministry probably won't care if my Dad loses his job because my family is considered traitors to the Wizarding World." I told him. "Why's that?" he listened intently. "Because my Dad has been doing a lot for Muggle-borns, and we support them." I said. "And they could use all the support they can get. You come from a good family, Lyddie. You have a good heart." he stroked my face; his blue eyes filled with love for me. "So do you, Ced." my heart was feeling warm and fuzzy. "I love you," I still got excited every time I told him that. "I love you more." he smiled his handsome smile that still made me melt. He moved a strand of hair out of my face and kissed me. It was Cedric who made me feel safe during the strange year we were having. The magical connection we were feeling would always keep us together.

We were making good progress on our defensive spells. Cedric and Harry were excellent instructors. It made me feel empowered to see the white stallion galloping in the air, elegant in its movements, as I was working hard to channel my Patronus. The pain we went through last year only fueled my determination to be stronger. When I cast the Patronus spell, I felt a surge of positive energy flow through me, and the white stallion galloped mightily in the air as the light shone brightly. Other members of the D.A. looked at me in awe. Cedric smiled proudly at me and said, "That's my girl."

After our celebration was cut short, we heard "BOMBARDA!" and saw a giant explosion erupt from Dolores Umbridge's wand; she had been informed of our location.

As a result, we were caught.
