Surprise Outing

Macyn.

"Ugh. Hair, why can't you cooperate, just this once?"

I stood there, staring into my reflection in the bathroom mirror.

My hair usually has a really nice curl to it.

Of course, it only happens when I'm doing absolutely nothing that day and no one is around.

Right now, it barely had a wave to it. Must be the lack of humidity today.

In California, there were many times when it wasn't humid at all.

Although, it could also be the fact that my hair has gotten pretty thick and long, stopping at the top of my butt.

My natural blonde highlights were really showing, especially since I scrunched it.

And thanks to the sun my hair is more sandy blonde than a light brown like it usually is.

I pull out my curling iron and plug it in, hoping to revive my curls enough to look decent in public.

Why do I even care so much? I ask myself, It's not like anyone will notice.

In fact, I hadn't had a guy so much as smile at me to let me know they were remotely interested in I don't know how long, so what makes me think it would change now?

I'm used to being alone and single. No drama. No heartbreak.

As long as I have my music and my best friends, that's all that mattered.

Listen to yourself, Macyn Brookes, you sound so pathetic right now... Stay focused!

Today is Friday, and it's the last weekend before school starts. My best friend Brinley was taking me out with her tonight.

She's a lot of fun to be with...

Meaning there is never a dull moment with her.

We've been best friends since the first grade, and have been inseparable ever since.

Speak of the devil.

I hear my phone buzz, and couldn't help but smile when I saw her name appear on the screen.

We were closer than sisters.

We've been through everything together.

She can make me laugh so hard I can't even breathe, or turn around to be so comforting when you are going through the toughest times.

And she always knows what to say,  just to make you smile.

I answer my phone:

"Hello, Love."

"Hey, Mace! Are you almost ready to go?"

"Yeah, sort of. My hair looks disgusting though."

She laughs.

"Well, I'm gonna head over to your house in about an hour, so be ready!"

"Okay, okay! I will do my best... Where exactly are we going again?"

"I told you, silly! It's a surprise! And trust me, it's gonna be so much fun!"

"Hmm, why do I get the feeling I shouldn't believe you?" I smirk.

I love teasing her.

"Oh come on! You're not still grudging over the time I took you to that stupid horror movie, are you?"
