Chapter 3

Xander's POV

"Thats a damn good room freshener, we should get it for our pack house" I said making the others to sniff the air. My wolf stirred and pecks his ears.

Alina said "Little bit of Orange blossom, Magnolia, wild Jasmine, Cypress... It's not room freshener, most likely someone's perfume. There is human scent mixed with it. These days ..."

DING...

We walked into the elevator and the scent was much stronger here. My wolf is now going crazy. The scent was so good that my mouth was watering. I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, filling my lung as much as I could. The humans did know how to make a perfume.

MATE... It's our mate, find her. My wolf spoke out of nowhere.

Suddenly I opened my eyes, realizing what my wolf said. I pressed all the buttons in the elevator. Before the others asked, I told them. "It's the scent of my mate. We need to find it."

There is no scent on the second-floor hallway. We have missed the first floor so Dexter took the stairs and check for the scent is in the first-floor hallway. The person took the elevator and the scent is still fresh meaning its only few minutes old. The scent should still be in the hallway maybe faded but it should be there.

The third floor came and so did the fourth floor. Still no scent in those hallways. With each floor, I was getting more anxious. My wolf is already trying to get out and take control.

DING!

I step out of the fifth floor and disappointment met me. 6 more floors to go. Perfect! I am ready to go another 100 floors if I am sure I can find my mate. But now I am not sure. The elevator was slow. What if the scent already faded? The hallways are ventilated. Why the fuck do the hallways need to be ventilated?

We will demolish all our apartments and build everything without ventilation. I ignore my wolf and focus on the task ahead. Being wolf he won't think logically and speaks instinctively. DING!

Sixth bloody floor. I stepped out, sniffed the ear and ...pissed, I took the stairs. Fucking elevator was taking too long and every fucking second is precious. Her scent is fading inside the elevator each time the door opens. I climbed the stairs in the dark. Ali followed me up the stairs, switching the lights of the staircase. I opened the door that leads to the staircase. And that's when the scent hits me again. My wolf howled in joy.

DING! .

Alina steps out and smiles at me. As I step forward, Ali enters the hallway from the same door like me. Alina uses her cartoon to block the elevator door from closing. We sniff to locate the source of the scent. 5 apartments each floor. I close my eyes, trying to sniff and find the scent. I shake my head and open my eyes. Alina and Ali are watching me, anticipating my command. Being the scent of my mate, it should be the strongest to me. But I could not find which door it came from. It is very faint.

Xander, any idea which door? Alina mid link me.

I sigh once agin, close my eyes, unable to control my disappointment any longer before I shake my head. I could not utter a word. My wolf whimpers. Sorry , was all he said to me.

Ali pats my shoulder. DING DONG!

I open my eyes to see Alina standing in front of one of the doors, what is she doing? But my heart starts racing, I eagerly hope my mate would open the door. I just could help myself. My wolf perks its ears once again, waiting. Few moments passed. A man opens the door. I step closure to the door trying to get a sniff of the apartment.

"I am looking for my cat, have you seen it?" Alina asked.

"NO.. Sorry" Alina looks at me, I mind link her in negative.

"Oh.. That's okay. Thanks again. Goodnight"

She rings the other door bell. Ali also proceeds to ring the other door bell.

"We are looking for my cat, have you seen it?" Alina asked an older woman.

"We are looking for my cat, have you seen it?" Ali asked another tenant, a young woman. I smelled it again, I looked towards Ali.

"Thanks you so much" Alina said and turned to me. I told both that Ali's door is the one .

"No" replied the girl to Ali. Ali being Ali, looked at me asking what to do next. I was thinking myself what to do next, I can't go inside just like that. Alina then walks next to Ali, and smiled at the woman and said "Hi, I am Alina, I just moved here now. I lost my cat. Also, I am waiting for a friend for the keys. Can I please use your washroom? Please. I really need it bad."

The woman looks at us, I can see her hesitation and that she is not comfortable. So, I said," Alina, shall we go downstairs and wait with the boxes in front of your apartment?"

Alina looks at the young woman, I am sure she has her pleading face. The lady thinks for a second and finally said "Okay" and opens the door for Alina. Ali and I enter the elevator and press 2 button.

Xander, the scent is stronger inside the house but the scent is old. She is not here. I will try to get as much info as I can. You owe me. Alina mind link me.

Anything ... I mind link her back. Dexter was already standing in front of the door waiting for us. I updated him while we wait for Alina.

"Let's hope she gets all information." Dexter said.

"Let's hope that she does not stay there all-night chatting." Ali said.

"Let's hope both." I agreed with both of them.
