Aubrie's POV
It became nighttime as Ryan and I continued to wait for the CT scan results. Ryan was texting on his "cell phone," as he explained to me earlier. I just lay on the bed pondering different situations in this life. Could I just start new and be anyone that I want? Or do I have an identity, but I just do not remember?
A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts, and Doctor Alex walked in and shut the door behind him. "So, as strange as it is, your CT scan came back clean. There is nothing wrong with you. And you are free to go home as well tonight."
Ryan did not seem to be too thrilled about the news and stood up immediately. "So, then what am I supposed to do with clueless wonder over there? She has no memory as to who she is and has nowhere to go! We cannot just keep her!? What if she is reported missing by someone, and then we get charged for kidnapping!!"
"I don't think that is possible because, as you say, she did end up in a well, and this kind of fall with no injury is just a miracle. Regardless, if she did happen to lose her memory or have time traveled in some way, anything can happen in this world, as you know. Plus, she is eighteen years old, which will rule out kidnapping since she isn't a child."
Silence filled the room for a while, but then an idea came to my head. "Well, why don't I just try to fit in? Find a job and a place to live, and I'll just do whatever I want to do in life. I always wanted to be a teacher, so why don't I just start with that?"
Ryan nodded his head, liking the idea, but Alex seemed to have other plans. "You do have a point. You will have to have an ID card to claim that you are yourself. And I'm sure I can find some people to make all that happen, just will take some time. Would you be interested in it?"
Ryan coughed some understanding of where he was going with it, and Alex raised his hand to stop him. "We can talk about it later with Don. For now, let's get her out of here and take her back to the family estate house. Then, we can take care of everything tomorrow. I'm sure Don can help with that arrangement." Ryan glared at him once more, not saying anything. "It's just one night, and since you just seem to be uncooperative, I'll look out for her from here on out."
Ryan looked over to me, nodded, and shook his hand. "Thank you. I got some business to take off now, so I need to leave," he said harshly and then walked out of the room quickly. I just sit there, shocked that this was my "rescuer." What a chump.
Alex shakes his head but then smiles back at me. "Don't worry about him. As long as I've known him in the family, he has always been this grumpy. Let us get you checked out, and you can just ride along with me to the estate. And consider me your friend from here on out."
That was the happiest news I heard yet arriving in this world. "Of course. And I'm SO ready to get out of this place!"
Alex left, saying he would be back, and then returned momentarily with some designer-branded clothes, shoes, and a gorgeous hat. I was eager to try them on, so I hastily went into the bathroom and changed quickly. The outfit fit me nicely, like it was meant to be. I walked out, and Alex showed off his smolder grin from this morning, complimenting me. I walked beside him as we walked out of the hospital and walked towards his "vehicle." I was shocked at how the vehicles looked as well, just like the hospital. It still blew my mind how the future has become. But I was eager to get into the car. He opened the car door before me, and I slid into the seat, grinning ear to ear, ready to ride. He shut the door behind me and then came into the driver's side of the car.
He drove out of the parking lot quickly, and my heart raced for how the car moved. "This is nothing like the carriages back home..." I thought questionably. But I loved the feeling of how the car was on the... pavement. I think that's what Alex said earlier, explaining everything as we were driving.
