Sam stared at the exit Marlene went through, tears streamed down her face. All these years with Marlene, were ruined in less than a minute. Sams heart was broken, she thought all she had was a crush, but it was so much more. It wouldn't of hurt to of known Marlene didn't love her, but it hurt to know she thought she did and so quickly realized she was mistaken.
She loves Marlene. Loved Marlene, and had for years, she never wanted to accept it because 'Why ruin what we have?'. And now it was gone, what she held back to save was gone, her Marlene was gone. Not hers, just Marlene was gone.
Sam slid down the railing of the astronomy tower, succumbing to her tears. She let the sobs over take her body, she hated this. She never thought in a million years Marlene would kiss her, she would never of thought that Marlene would kiss her and then leave her. The words she said broke her heart "I don't want you". She never thought she would be crying over a girl, she always thought she was stronger than that but this is Marlene, the Marlene who knew all of her hardships, all of her fears, and all of her pain. The same Marlene who called her 'Bunny', had left her.
If the night wasnt bad enough it was beginning to rain, not a normal rain but a thunder storm. Samantha could just never catch a break. She refused to move, even when the violent winds shook her, even when the cold rain drenched her to the bone. She stayed, and cried. She cried over Marlene, but not the fact that Marlene didn't love her, but that Sam was so naive that she thought there was a chance she did. How could someone like Marlene McKinnon ever love her?
If there was one thing about Samantha Riteen it is that she was never enough.
Never enough for her Mother, never enough for her father nor her brother, and never enough for herself.
The one person who made her feel whole, the one person who made her feel enough, left her. Left her alone in the cold, with tears streaming down her face. She had not only lost the person she had feelings for but her bestfriend.
Sam couldn't even produce another tear when she finally opened her eyes, Looking around at the sky, it was a mess of lightning and rain. Usually a comfort for Sam, but tonight it only made her feel uneasy. She couldn't even go back to her dorm, not if Marlene was there, she wanted to save them both from embarrassment.
She was just sitting on the tower, staring at the sky trying to figure out what to do, when two arms wrapped around her.
Sam tried to break free, but it was no use. It wasnt anyone there to harm her because she instantly knew who was hugging her, but she still didn't want them touching her. She stopped struggling, and hugged back. She was so exhausted, too exhausted to argue.
"Severus...".
"I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry Sam. Please, let that be enough, just for now.".
She nodded, looking Severus in the eye. "What happened?". Sam didn't want to tell him, not only for herself but for Marlene. She knew there were even people in the Wizarding World who didn't approve of same sex relationships, she would never understand why, and was scared that if Severus knew and they fought again he may tell people. "Why are you doing this? After what I've said too you?" she asked.
He stared at her, not answering. Somewhere in his eyes she could the guilt he had. "What happened?" he asked her again.
Severus wasnt evil, nor good. But he was very hotheaded, and sometimes said things without thinking about how much they could hurt other people. She use to trust him, she use to love him.
