Chapter 10: First day at work

Wednesday September 16th. It was your first day of work after being accepted, you started work at 12:30. It was only 10:40 when you woke up, Takumi brought you breakfast like usual and you still sat in that horrible cage.

"Today is my first day at work...I have to go." You told him even though you were a little hesitant to do so.

"I know. You'll go to work and when your done I'll come pick you up." said Takumi as he sat on the floor next to the cage.

"You don't have to do that...you can trust me, I promise I'll come straight here after work." You said trying to make him agree to it but he wouldn't.

"I said I'll pick you up." said Takumi.

After you finished eating, he unlocked the cage to take your dishes like usual except this time after doing so he left the door open. You sat there in the cage looking at him and he looked at you without saying anything at first but then he asked, "What are you waiting for?" You weren't sure how to respond or what to do so you just stayed put looking at him.

"Your bag of clothes are on the bed." said Takumi before getting up, "Go ahead and get ready. I'll be downstairs."

He left the room after that while you slowly climbed out of the cage and stood in front of the bed looking at your bag. Was he trying to be nice just now?

After that you did some stretching before taking out what you were going to wear and going to the bathroom to shower. When you got out, you went back to your room and turned on the tv to check the time. It was already 11:26. I still have some time to kill before going to work so I guess I'll just sit here and watch tv.

You sat down on the bed and watched tv for awhile until it was almost 12:20 then you and Takumi left the house. He drove you all the way to work and after he parked in front of the building he gave you your phone back and said, "For now you can have your phone until I think about letting you keep it." You smiled and thanked him before getting out and going in.

At work you were shown how to make coffee and did other things then once you got the hang of it, you started doing things by yourself. When it was your break time, you checked your phone for any new messages from your friends but it looks like they haven't messaged you in awhile so you texted your friend Mei first.

Mei it's been awhile.  Sorry I haven't been in touch.

You put your phone down and waited for a response but you didn't have to wait very long because she responded back right away.

It's okay I understand.   What have you been up to? Did you get a job?

Yeah, I did.  I just started today and I've been busy with other things, sorry I haven't been home in awhile.

It's okay! I miss you a lot tho...it's been pretty boring and lonely without you here.   When will you come back?

Before you could respond back, you thought about her message while staring at the screen. When will I be able to go back? I haven't made any progress yet with getting to know him and that's because I don't know where to start...

Your break was almost over so you quickly sent her a text telling her you weren't sure when you were coming back and that you'll let her know soon when you could.

After work Takumi picked you up like he said he would and then you two went home without saying a word to each other in the car which made it a very awkward car ride back to his house. At his house when you guys got there he said, "Go ahead and change first, dinner will be ready soon."

"...I can make dinner." You told him, "You always cook for me so I'll make us meals this time."

"No." said Takumi before going into the house. You quickly followed him and asked, "Why not?"

He turns around and looks at you, "I don't trust you."

I guess it's because I ran away and now he probably thinks I might poison his food or something.

"I'm sorry I ran away...it won't happen again." You said while making eye contact.

Takumi smiled while leaning closer to your face. "Of course it won't. I won't let that happen again."

Just before Takumi walked away, he turned around and said "I'll make dinner tonight. You can do it tomorrow." You smiled and agreed to do it tomorrow.

That night when you and Takumi had dinner together, it was in your room because he wouldn't let you leave your room like before. While you both ate in silence, you kept looking at him from time to time while thinking to yourself.

What should I ask him? Should I ask him about his parents?

"Do you have something you wanna ask?" Takumi asked you.

"Yes...kind of, why?" You asked.

"You keep looking at me." said Takumi as he looked at you. "What do you want?"

"....Where are your parents?" You asked a bit hesitantly.

"They don't live in this area." said Takumi.

"Oh...do you keep in touch with them?"

"Here and there." said Takumi before asking, "Why do you want to know about my parents?"

"I'm just curious that's all...I keep in touch with my parents too and they also don't live around here." You told him.

"Is that all you wanted to ask?" Takumi asked.

"Yes...for now." You said to him while giving him your dishes.

He nodded then stood up and said, "If you get off work early tomorrow then...let's go on a date."

Huh? A date..? For real!?

"A date?" You asked him.

"Yes a date stupid. What else huh?" said Takumi before leaving the room.

You let out a sigh as you thought about it a little longer.

If I go on a date with him then I can slowly learn things about him and it'll make it easier for me to understand him and ask more questions. I can't say no to the date since I'm afraid of what he'll do if I say no so I might as well just go with it...
