Christmas Eve was Atsushi's absolute favorite day of the year. He would come up with cute date ideas from him and Ryuu and once they got home, they could never go wrong with hot chocolate and Christmas movies.
He already thought everything out and was taking Ryuu down to the ice skating rink, not telling him where they were going. Once it was in view however, he started to look nervous. Atsushi noticed right away and tugged on his arm.
"What's wrong?"
Ryuu hesitated, and covered his mouth, looking embarrassed. "I- I've never done this before... I'm probably terrible at it."
Atsushi smiled and held his hand tighter. "It's okay! I'll teach you! I've only been a few times myself, but I know the basics."
They purchased their skates and headed down to put them on.
"How are we supposed to get on the rink wearing these?" Akutagawa asked, holding the blade up.
"It's not as hard as it looks, you just take slow steps. I'll hold your hand, don't worry. I won't let you fall," he pressed a soft kiss on Ryuu's cheek and went back to tying his shoes.
"I know you wouldn't." he smiled warmly and finished lacing up.
Atsushi got on his feet and reached out for the other. "C'mere. I'll walk you through it first."
Ryuu took Atsushi's hand and wobbled upwards. He shook a bit, but managed to stay in place.
"I'm going to fall the second I try and take a step-"
"I've got you, I've got you." Atsushi firmed his grip and took a step forward. "Just walk slowly. It's not scary, I promise."
"I'm not afraid."
"Then why don't you walk?"
"..."
Ryuu slowly put one foot forward and was surprised at how he didn't collapse.
"See? It's not so bad." Atsushi moved closer to the entrance, being slowly followed by Ryuu.
He made it to the front of the rink, and stepped through the small opening, holding onto the wall with his other hand, ushering his boyfriend to join him.
"Just hold on to the wall first, I'll show you what to do."
Ryuu was flustered by how confident Atsushi was and shakily made his way onto the ice, grabbing a firm hold at the wall.
Atsushi let go of his hand and started to skate forward. "Okay, it's hard to explain... but just move your feet around kinda side to side, and focus on moving forward."
He reached his hand out again, and it was just out of Akutagawa's grasp, so he had to move forward.
"You better not let me fall." he laughed.
"I would never," he said sarcastically, which frightened him a bit.
Atsushi started to move, and Ryuu could only do the same, since they were linked together, and he wasn't letting go anytime soon. He noticed how he was just naturally doing fine, since he was being led by Atsushi.
He came up to the side of the other, and continued being carried on. "Now just continue this, but without me. It'll happen naturally-"
"Don't let go!"
Atsushi giggled at how fidgety he was. "I won't! I'm just saying for the future."
Akutagawa hid his nose under his scarf to pretend he wasn't still embarrassed. He watched the pattern of his legs moving, and tried to get a grip on how that was done.
"I can kind of see a pattern."
"Good. Now just focus. Keep doing that, and when I let go, you can stay by the wall in case you feel you're going to slip."
That was... comforting... in it's own way.
Atsushi started to loosen up, and Akutagawa reached for the wall.
"I'll stay next to you, take your time. But I'm gonna let go."
"O-okay." he took a deep breath and let Atsushi drift just a few inches away. He remained standing, but felt less safe, and gripped the wall, still moving forward.
"Keep it up, Ryuu, you're doing great!"
Well he wasn't doing bad for his first time, and hearing that praise from Atsushi felt good. So just in the moment, he let go of the wall.
He lasted longer than he would have thought. About ten seconds. Then he stumbled, and almost fell over, being caught, thankfully.
He looked up at Atsushi who looked concerned. "Are you okay?" he laughed and panted at the same time.
Akutagawa laughed a bit as well and nodded, taking his hand again.
"It's okay. You don't need to go solo on your first time. Besides. I like holding your hand anyway."
How could something so precious be called his?

Even though they could have slipped and died, they had a great time. Akutagawa didn't let go of Atsushi once, and they were both alright with that.
The drive home was beautiful, there were lights absolutely everywhere, and it made Akutagawa's heart flutter. Atsushi couldn't stop gushing at how pretty it all was, and seeing him so excited made Ryuu feel like the luckiest man alive.
Their apartment was decorated too, however, so the spirit lasted. Atsushi hung up his scarf and coat, took off his boots, and immediately went to the kitchen and took out two mugs.
"Ryuu! Get something started, I'll make the drinks."
Akutagawa never really got the whole deal out of Christmas. Maybe because he never got to experience it as a child. But now that he was older and had someone to spend it with, he understood. It was about spending time with the people you love and cherish. He did have one of those. And Atsushi had the energy of a child when it came to the holiday season. Even though he may not have mad much of it either, since he grew up in a terrible environment, he decided to use that excitement now instead of throwing it all away. Ryuu only wished he could be like that. But seeing Atsushi happy made him happy, and that was all he needed to have a good Christmas.
The only issue was that he was shit at picking movies. Atsushi was always the one to do that, so he was stuck scrolling through the options until the jinko joined him.
"I'll get it," he said with a grin, putting the two cups down on the table. He knew Akutagawa had a sweet tooth, though that was just between the two of them, so he always put in extra marshmallows for him. What a cutie.
Atsushi ended up choosing It's A Wonderful Life, since it was their favorite Christmas movie, and wanted to end the night on a good note, even if it meant a few tears were going to be shed. They both snuggled in under the fluffy blanket that was laid out on the couch and started the movie.
About ten minutes in, Akutagawa was sipping on his drink, and caught Atsushi staring at him. "Hm?"
He blushed "You've got something above your lip."
He did feel a bit of liquid just above his mouth from the drink, and was about to reach to wipe it off before Atsushi beat him to it.
He leaned over and caught his mouth in a wet kiss, tasting the milk and chocolate on Ryuu's tongue.
Atsushi's kisses always felt so passionate and soft, nothing could beat them. It felt like forever before he leaned away, and had cleaned his mouth off. "Got it," he murmured, cuddling into the curve of Ryuu's neck, and facing back towards the TV.
"I love you. Thank you for today." Akutagawa kissed the top of Atsushi's head, and leaned into him.
"I love you too. Merry Christmas, Ryuu."
And they were both asleep before they knew it.
