Akutagawa was the first to wake up in the morning almost every day. Atsushi usually slept in on the weekends, and always beat himself up for it since he wanted to spend more time with Akutagawa throughout the day. But he didn't mind, it meant that they had been cuddling each other anyway while they were sleeping.
This morning wasn't any different, it was Saturday, and the night before had been... intense. Atsushi loved his kisses, that's for sure. Akutagawa slowly woke up, recognizing the light from the blinds piercing into his eyes like daggers. He wished he would remember to close them all the way from now on. His senses started to come back to him, sight came first. Little strands of silver were all messed up just below his eyes, Atsushi's hair was always messy in the morning. Then he started to take on the sounds of Atsushi's quiet breathing, the exhales blowing against his shoulder like a feather. He recognized the slender body frame of the jinko wrapped in his arms like he was being protected from something. Atsushi was lucky he was facing the other way so the light wasn't in his face, and Akutagawa was shielding him from it. He felt good knowing that he was doing something for Atsushi. His sense of worth had finally come back to him once they confessed their love, everything just felt right. Atsushi made him feel like he was worth something, and Akutagawa gave him the same.
Akutagawa started running his hand up and down Atsushi's back gently, reminding him of his presence. Atsushi hummed a little under his breath, and nuzzled his head closer to his boyfriend's chest. Atsushi could be described as the most peaceful being when he was asleep. Every day at work he was a nervous mess, worrying what he would do wrong and right, but now he had no obligations and could just breathe. He was only like this when he was with Akutagawa, he didn't trust anyone more. The moment they met, he kept telling himself he wanted to kill Atsushi, but it was all Mori and the rest of the Port Mafia getting into his head. He loved the jinko and wanted the best for him. Now they shared an apartment and couldn't be happier together.
Akutagawa adjusted himself and held Atsushi closer against him, trying his best not to disturb the weretiger, but also needing to feel every bit of him. He knew that he hadn't bothered Atsushi because his eyes were shut so beautifully, so delicately, they hadn't moved an inch. All of Akutagawa's worries completely washed away when Atsushi firmed his grip around Akutagawa's waist. He wanted to be closer too. Akutagawa smiled to himself and moved his hand up to Atsushi's hair, scratching it. He leaned into it, seeming to be enjoying himself.
"I wish you knew how much I love you." Akutagawa whispered, kissing the top of his head. He couldn't express it, there was no way to. Atsushi was the love of his life, and if anything were to happen to him, his life would fall apart. It was the little moments like this that mattered the most, how much they mutually trusted each other with their lives. He wouldn't give it up for the world.
The light was still keeping him from seeing his boyfriend properly. Nothing was allowed to get in his way. He reached for the sheets bunched up next to his leg and threw it over both of them. It was dimmed now, and he looked down at the sleeping jinko, heart swelling in his chest. He was just so beautiful, how could he not see that?
Atsushi stirred from the sudden change. "Ssh... it's okay," Akutagawa coaxed quietly. Atsushi winced a little bit, and gorgeous golden eyes met duller gray ones. His brain took a second to process, but he grinned sweetly once he looked up and saw Akutagawa. Akutagawa was slightly frustrated that he had woken the jinko, but he really didn't seem to mind.
"Hello, love." He rasped, thumb brushing over this side of his face. Atsushi purred, closing his eyes again.
"Good morning." He slid his hand from Akutagawa's waist to his shoulder, finding another way to feel him. They lied there in a beautiful silence for a few minutes.
"Ryuu?"
"Mhm?"
"I'll ask again in a more proper manner later... but will you marry me?"
Akutagawa had been half asleep before, now he was wide awake. He was about to panic, but the look Atsushi had on his face calmed him down a little bit. His cheeks were a bright pink, he was nervous, but happy to have asked anyway.
It wasn't official, but the question still stood. Akutagawa's nerves settled, and he sighed happily. "I wouldn't marry anyone else. Nobody could top you, ever. I want to spend every second possible holding you like I am now. It means the world to me. So yes, of course."
Atsushi smashed his face into Akutagawa's chest again, slightly screaming at the answer he received. Akutagawa laughed at his excitement and went back to petting his hair. "What? I was honest."
Atsushi jerked his head back up, even more red than before. "I know but I'm so happy! I've never been happier in my entire life!" Akutagawa noticed he was starting to cry.
"Oh, sweetheart, come here." he pulled Atsushi back into his shoulder and tried to comfort him. "Hey, it's okay, you don't need to cry."
"But I'm so happy, I don't even know what to do."
"Well I don't like seeing you cry so just breathe, baby. It's all okay." he would have started laughing if he wasn't so determined to comfort him. Atsushi started breathing deeper, trying to catch his breath.
"I'll marry you in a heartbeat. You're everything to me. So let's take the final step."
