The moment Akutagawa heard the news he fled his office and rushed to the ADA headquarters. The only thing he could feel was panic. Atsushi had gone on a mission with Kyouka and Kenji. They were supposed to take out a few bombers in town, there was a significant rise of them these days. It seemed like a simple mission, but Atsushi was apparently injured and would need to stay in the infirmary until he was better. Yosano would give him treatment, but nobody enjoyed it to say the least. It was... painful. There was no other word for it.
He would have to stay in there for the rest of the day, and if Akutagawa knew anything about his boyfriend, it's that he hated being alone. If he ever had to stay late for work, his phone would get spammed with messages insisting he stop working himself so hard and to come home to him. Atsushi would always say it was for the sake of his mental health, but he knew he was just afraid of being by himself for too long. And he didn't have a problem with that, if anything he wanted to be there for him even more. It just troubled him that Atsushi felt like that. So now that he was in a small infirmary room with nobody to support him, he would have to leave his papers for another day, because he was far more important.
Akutagawa burst through the front door and was greeted with an intrigued Kunikida. "I assume you're here for Atsushi." he got a desperate nod in return. Kunikida was always serious with everything he was doing, but he understood how people felt. He may not have a lover himself, but he was trying his best, and helping these two be together was the least of his problems when he had to put up with Dazai and his bullshit. The older man guided him down the hall and stopped at one of the far doors to the right.
"He's in here. He'll have to stay overnight, it's up to Yosano whether you can stay or not. I think she'll allow it so don't worry too much. Let him know he's safe, he's a little shaken up after the treatment. That woman really does have no mercy." he murmured the last part, walking back upstairs. Akutagawa hadn't processed anything he just said and was so eager to get into the room and hopefully stay there as long as Atsushi was kept.
He pushed the door open and turned to see his beloved jinko in a hospital gown, lying in bed with several bandages wrapped around his shoulder. He didn't look to bad, but either way he was hurt. Atsushi smiled with relief when he recognized Akutagawa. "Hi, Ryuu. Thanks for coming, but can I ask how work's going? I don't want to keep you from that."
Typical Atsushi. Never worried for himself, only for others. Akutagawa stepped towards the other, and bent down to his level, reaching out for his face and brushing his thumb across his cheek. "You stop that right now. You are more important than any work of mine ever will be. Okay?" He didn't want to be aggressive, but needed to get his point across. Atsushi nodded slowly and leaned into his hand.
"Good. How are you feeling?"
"Fine. It hurt like hell though, but I feel better now. Yosano said I can go home tomorrow, it's just best that I stay here. I got a really nasty burn on my side and I thought I was gonna die for a bit." he said it like it was nothing. Knowing him, he was probably more worried about helping out Kyouka and Kenji, which was what most likely led to the burn.
"Atsushi, I've told you. You need to get yourself out if it's a life or death situation." Atsushi just smiled at him. "That's not our policy."
"Well maybe I don't like your dumbass policy." they both laughed at that and Akutagawa sat up to join him on the bed. He held out his freakishly cold hand, and Atsushi took it with no hesitation.
Akutagawa got lost in Atsushi's beautiful eyes for what felt like the millionth time. Brilliant shades of purple and gold blended together perfectly, and created a gorgeous look for a gorgeous person. Akutagawa never liked his own, they looked so gray and dull, there was nothing special about them. But Atsushi was like the color that he needed in his life. And he had done just that. He loved him unconditionally, even if he was this blackened angst dump, but he just loved him for him. That was the most important part.
"Jesus you're stunning," he whispered, putting his arms around the other. Atsushi's face turned a light shade of pink, he always got flustered when Akutagawa complimented him. He had a way with words that sent electricity through his spine every time, and he loved it.
"You are too. My beautiful boyfriend with his beautiful boyfriend." he put his hands behind Akutagawa's neck and kept himself there, just staring at him longingly. Akutagawa leaned closer to him, lips ghosting beside his neck, quiet breathing tickling Atsushi's skin.
"This doesn't hurt, does it?" he asked, since he was leaning on the bandaged shoulder. Atsushi shook his head and put his hand into the back of Akutagawa's hair. "No. The bandages are just to keep it in place, it doesn't hurt anymore."
He smirked and kissed the weretiger's neck passionately. Atsushi got such rapid butterflies instantly, because he wasn't expecting that, but didn't mind in the slightest. He just leaned into the other and sighed contently.
"I love you." Akutagawa whispered, showering his neck and the sides of his face with soft kisses. Atsushi planted one on his forehead, and started to lean back down, Akutagawa joining him, not stopping the kissing for a second.
"I love you too, Ryuu. I love you." he stopped talking and littered Ryuu's face with his lips until they were both so close, and felt like they were missing something. Akutagawa captured Atsushi's lips with his own and hummed into his mouth. Atsushi could do this forever, the feeling was incredible. Waves of desire and love washed through his entire body shamelessly, and all he wanted was for this moment to last forever. Even if they were in the middle of a cramped infirmary room, they had each other and that was what mattered.
Akutagawa's hands found their way into Atsushi's hair, and he ran his fingers into the roots as he continued to kiss him. Atsushi linked his arms around the other's back and held him closer, so they weren't an inch apart. God he loved his man, and would do anything to stay with him forever. It didn't matter if they were back at the apartment or not, he just wanted his Ryuu. And he wasn't going anywhere either.
Eventually, they broke the kiss, but it didn't feel empty anymore. They both felt satisfied. They needed each other, and that's just what they had. Akutagawa moved to the right side of the bed and lied down next to the weretiger, soon joined. They went right back to staring at each other, happy blush spread across their faces.
"Hi." Atsushi rasped.
"Hi." Akutagawa gave him one more deep kiss on the lips before moving back and letting Atsushi snuggle into his side, curling up like cat. He was exhausted from that mission and needed some well earned rest. That became obvious when he passed out, smile remaining. Akutagawa continued running his hands through his hair, joy plastered onto his face.
"Goodnight, my angel."
It didn't matter if Yosano barged in and told him to leave, he was not going anywhere.
