Because of Akutagawa's ability to get sick very easily, he absolutely hated the cold. The amount of times he had come home late and caught a cold was too many to count and he was tired of feeling like a burden on Atsushi. It was normal for him to drive home quickly, just so he could get home to his boyfriend, but now he was going faster than usual because of a text he received about five minutes before he was finished with work.
hey babe the heater's broken, they're trying to get it fixed rn but it's going to take a while. you should stay there, it's absolutely freezing over here. i'll let you know when they get it back up 💕
That obviously wasn't going to work, and only made him want to go home more. Even if he caught a terrible cold in the morning, it didn't matter, Atsushi was alone in the cold and he couldn't let that slide. As soon as he was in the parking lot, he grabbed his things and burst out the car door. He fled up the stairs and put the key in his apartment door, opening it to feel no difference in temperature. This was going to be a long night. He put his bag down next to the door, and Atsushi turned the corner to meet him. He hand a blanket draped over his shoulders, and his nose and cheeks were all pink.
"Hi." he said quietly. Akutagawa could tell he was shivering, and the sight of it infuriated him. Whatever the reason for the heater breaking down, it hurt Atsushi, so he would kill the stupid heater if he had to.
"Okay, I'm gonna go change, you get all the spare blankets out and put them on the bed." he suggested, heading for the bathroom.
"O-okay. Are you sure it wouldn't have been better for you to stay at the office? I mean... I was fine here by myself." There was one thing Akutagawa hated more than anything, and it was when Atsushi acted like everything was alright, and it wasn't. Before he turned the corner into their room, he gave Atsushi a soft kiss on the cheek. "I wouldn't leave you here like that."
Atsushi couldn't help but smile, and it sent a flutter into Akutagawa's heart. "Be right back."
He looked through his drawers and figured it would be better to put heavier clothing on, since even if the heater got fixed sooner rather than later, it would still take a bit before everything was heated up again. He couldn't find the specific black hoodie he was looking for, though.
"You looking for something?" Atsushi asked from behind him. Akutagawa turned around, and underneath the blanket hanging over him, he could see the hoodie. He really loved when Atsushi did that, it was probably the cutest thing he had ever seen.
"I was looking for that, but you leave it on."
Atsushi realized what he was talking about and his face got even redder from embarrassment. "Oh, sorry. I can give it back-"
Akutagawa reached up for Atsushi's face and kissed him again. "You look adorable. Leave it on, sweetie."
He only got more flustered from the pet name, before Akutagawa grabbed a different hoodie and left for the bathroom.
Atsushi got out all the extra blankets from the closet and spread them over the top of the bed. He knew what Akutagawa was planning, and blushed just thinking about it. They hadn't had a real cuddle session in a while, and he was looking forward to it.
He was back soon enough, and Atsushi was already under the covers, trying to hide his smile. Akutagawa had stolen one of Atsushi's hoodies in return, and smirked at him once he realized that.
"Thief." he murmured. Akutagawa crawled on top of the bed and slid underneath the covers. They were a little cold, but the other blankets made up for it. Atsushi was wearing one as a scarf. Akutagawa moved it away from his face so he could see him better, and brushed his uneven hair over his ear.
"Don't say it-"
"You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen." he always said that to Atsushi, whether he believed it or not. Atsushi whined and his his face in the blanket again. "Am not."
"Yes you are. Look at me, angel." Atsushi was weak when it came to pet names, he couldn't stop his heart from racing every time. He looked back up at his lover with shimmering eyes that captivated the other.
Akutagawa put his arms around Atsushi and held him impossibly close. Atsushi smiled and leaned up to kiss him. Akutagawa rested his hand on the back of Atsushi's neck, the both of them not an inch apart. Atsushi broke and rested his head in between the pillow and the dip in Akutagawa's neck, humming softly.
Akutagawa started pressing feather-light kisses all over Atsushi's forehead, making him giggle a little bit. "Ryuu, that tickles."
"I can't help myself." he insisted, continuing. Atsushi didn't mind at all. That was really all he wanted after all, just for Akutagawa to shower him in love and to give him the same right back.
"Y'know... maybe I want the heater to stay broken. If it means we can do this more often." Atsushi whispered followed by a quiet yawn. Akutagawa stopped kissing him and just stared into his eyes again.
"Then I'll break it for you."
"Ryuu no-"
"I would do anything for you. I hope you know that."
Atsushi laughed and held his hand which was lying a little bit below both of them. "I think I do. But don't do anything scary."
"No promises." he said with one more light kiss on the tip of his nose.
"Fine. But then I'll have to do the same. I'll do anything for you."
Akutagawa shook his head. "You've done enough. Having you here right now is everything. I love you so much."
Atsushi buried his face deeper into Akutagawa's shoulder. "I love you more."
