Dazai was the worst. At all times. Originally, all Akutagawa wanted was Dazai's approval, but now he just saw him as this sketchy scumbag. And that he was. The only thing keeping Akutagawa from strangling Dazai to death was the fact that he was the reason why he and Atsushi were together in the first place. They used to team up a lot even when Akutagawa worked in the mafia. Ever since he left, and took a local office job for a living, that was his chance to be closer with Atsushi, since they were no longer enemies.

Why Dazai was a scumbag was because he used to set up Atsushi and Akutagawa on "dates" and call them "lovebirds" and as much as that infuriated them, he turned out to be dead right. But nowadays when they actually wanted to go out on their own free will, Dazai would always come along and screw it up.

Akutagawa figured this was going to be the case again. The ADA was having an annual get-together where everyone could just hang out. Atsushi invited Akutagawa as a date. Of course, he agreed, but anxiety was prying at him ever since. He just wanted to have a nice night with Atsushi, but he knew that wasn't going to be the case.

As soon as Atsushi's car pulled up to his apartment, his heart was beating out of his chest for two reasons. One, Atsushi was looking adorable as always. Two, Dazai and Kunikida were in the car with him. Dazai had this smug look on his face, and Akutagawa knew he was fucked.

"Hi, Ryuu!!" Atsushi waved enthusiastically. He felt his face heat up.

"Hey, sweetheart," he stopped once he remembered other people were present. He got in the front seat, and then the stupid suicidal maniac started talking.

"I didn't know you were such a heart-throb Akutagawa~" he teased, poking him from the back seat. Akutagawa swatted him away.

"Aw, he always is." Atsushi blurted, leaning over to give his partner a peck on the cheek.

"Atsushiii," he whispered, embarrassed.

"I knew you two were in love from the moment you became 'enemies.' Nobody was falling for that-"

"Dazai I must insist that you stop," Kunikida hit Dazai on the shoulder, seeing the state Akutagawa was in.

Thank fuck.

The rest of the car ride wasn't awful, the tension was awful, though. Akutagawa could feel Dazai staring at him the whole time as if he was saying something like "i'm about to fuck up your whole night" and he hated it.

Once they finally arrived, Atsushi grabbed Akutagawa's hand, and lead him inside. He gripped onto Atsushi a little too hard, worrying about him.

The first hour was actually really nice. Everyone in the ADA was kind to Akutagawa, which he didn't expect. He strived to be like them, he even considered joining the agency one day, once he was able to build up the confidence. And for once, his anxieties drifted away. That is, until he heard Dazai say,

"Ay, Atsushi, you want any of this?"

He turned over, and saw Dazai with a glass of some sort of alcoholic beverage. He would have no idea what it was called, since he didn't drink.

"Yeah, sure. Why not."

He was too vulnerable.

"Atsushi, you're underraged," Akutagawa whispered to him. Atsushi took the glass from Dazai, and turned to his partner.

"Ryuu, I'm fine. I'm twenty, I'll be legal in a year." and before he could say anything else, he took a swig, and put his glass down on the coffee table next to him. It was almost invisible, but Atsushi did wince a bit.

"What about you, Akutagawa?" Dazai asked with that infuriating tease in his voice again. Akutagawa put his hand next to his side and flipped him off. Dazai rolled his eyes, and walked away, downing his other glass.
