The atmosphere was wonderful. Personally, Alexis has never been to Bolivar's, simply because she thought the food was nasty. At least it smelled like it whenever she walked by. She could never figure out what the smell was until she realized it was just fish. The longer they sat there, though, the better it started to smell. It was one of those scents that needed to grow on you after a while, mainly because she wasn't used to it.
She knew right off the bat what she wanted to eat; cocktail shrimp, chicken breasts, and garlic butter pasta topped with shutter home wine. It was the first thing she saw on the menu and really the only thing she liked.
Larry played it safe with his usual mango curry salmon with a side of fresh asparagus and mashed potatoes, pairing it with a glass of shutter home as well. Halfway through dinner, they began to talk about their childhoods and Larry was now telling her a story about how their cat killed a mouse and he hid it in their parents' room. Neither of them knew how their conversation became so comical, but they didn't mind it.
"You're fucking lying," Alexis cackled as Larry tried to continue his sit through his own fits of laughter. "Are you kidding me? And he didn't say anything?!"
"No!" Larry laughed, holding his stomach so he could try to calm do. "He just...he fucking went along with it. I-I told him to never speak a word of that shit to anyone and he never did."
Alexis laughed even harder at that, slapping her hand down on their table a she got her fits out. "Ain't no way, Larry. I know they at least had to have smelled it or some shit. And why would you hide it in their room? That shit must've been rotten as hell."
"I don't fucking know," Larry chuckled. He grabbed his glass of wine and took a few gulps, shaking his head when he felt himself starting to giggle again. "My mom has a huge fear of rodents so I guess I didn't want to scare her. She thought it was the pipes anyway so we ended up moving."
"Wow, Larry. This all could have been avoided if you kept your rooms clean."
Larry rolled his eyes and he picked up his fork, stabbing it into a few pieces of asparagus and salmon. "That wasn't my fault, it was my brothers. He was always the messy one."
"Yeah right," Alexis sighed. "Speaking of him, how is he?"
A short silence fell over them and Alexis suddenly felt like she shouldn't have asked that question. Something flashed behind Larry's eyes, as if what she asked brought back memories he was trying to forget. He sighed, though, and he looked over at her, swirling his index finger around his glass.
"That's not something I want to talk about right now," he started, smiling a little to ease the sudden tension. Seeing the understanding look that washed over Alexis' face made him feel a bit better anyway. "Can we change the subject, Nameless?"
The brought a smile to Alexis' lips and she shook her head, sitting up in her seat to rest her elbows on the table. "You know my name already, Larry."
"I do," he shrugged, relaxing a bit. "But I like that nickname for you."
"May I ask why?"
"If you weren't Alexis, who would you be?"
Alexis frowned, tilting her head slightly as she tried to fathom his question. "Huh?"
Larry chuckled. "I like the nickname Nameless because... I realized that you don't have to be what you think you have to be. You can be whoever you want, do whatever you want, and still get shit done without having to have a name on you. Like...nobody could know who I am because of my name, but because of what I do, you know? So, it's like...names are... unnecessary labels that we don't really fucking need."
