Chapter 1- Rumor?

Chapter 1
Rumor?

-Cali's point of view-
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock screeching. I quickly turned off my alarm clock before it could wake up my whole family.
I got out of bed and went to get ready for the day.
I went to my separate bathroom and started to take a warm shower. Just as I was putting conditioner in my hair there was a loud knock on my bathroom door. "Cali,hurry up your wasting all the hot water!" My older brother Tyler whined.
I quickly rinsed the conditioner out of my hair and got out of the shower. "Happy now?" I shouted to Tyler.
I heard a faint 'yes' coming from Tyler's room.
I quickly blow dried my damp hair and once it was dry I put my Carmel brown hair in loose curls.
I quickly put on makeup so I would have time to figure out an outfit for school.
Since it was going to be in the nineties I put on a purple Pacsun crop top and American eagle short shorts.
I grabbed my bags and quickly rushed down stairs to eat something. "Why are you in such a rush,Cal?" I heard my mom ask.I stopped on the last step and turned around. "Because I'm going to be late,I have to pick up Hayden."
"Who's Hayden?"My overly curious mother crossed her arms.
How could she not know?"My best friend,she came over this weekend."
I quickly grabbed the railing so I wouldn't fall.
"Sweetheart, I don't remember anyone coming over."Her voice had a deadly edge to it. But of course me being the sassiest person to ever live I had to give her a snide remark.
"That's because most of the time your not sober."I sneered.
Before my mom could say anything else I quickly went down the last step and walked into the kitchen.
"Cali get your sorry butt over here right now!" My mother shrieked clearly horrified that I told her that.
I grabbed an apple from the fruit basket and rushed out to my convertible.

"So you basically told your mom she's an alcoholic?" Hayden asked me as I pulled into the schools parking lot.
"Yeah,she didn't remember who you were." I shrugged. Hayden and I both know I get very protective over my friends.
"Don't sweat it,Cal."Hayden gave me a reassuring hug. We both got out of the car and walked to the school.

"Hey California!" I heard a deep voice shout. Only one person would have the nerve to make fun of my name.Jacob.
I came to a dead stop in the parking lot and turned around to face Jacob. "What?"I clenched my fists together.
"Calm down,California."Jacob smirked and put his hands up in surrender.
"Jacob,what do you want?" I said through gritted teeth.
"Can't I say hi to my bestie?" Jacob winked at me.

If I wasn't so mad at him after all these years I would've probably swooned but we both knew that wasn't going to happen.
"Seriously grow up,"I growled.
Before Jacob could do anymore damage Hayden quickly came to my rescue. "Jake,we've gotta go,C'ya."
Hayden desperately dragged me into the school building and we went to our lockers.
"I'm sorry you had to see that,he just ticks me off." I said as Hayden and I walked to homeroom.
"It's fine,trust me I know what he did to you."

I slid into my desk next to Hayden. "Hey you and a few other girls came out of that mess." I smiled as I saw my two other best friends walk towards us.
Brooke and Casey walked towards us with eager looks on their faces.
"What did you two do this time?" Hayden jokingly scolded them.
"Casey and I heard that Ryan likes you!" Brooke squealed.

Hayden,Casey and Brooke looked at me eagerly,waiting for my response.
Ryan was the schools football captain and also the schools 'hottest guy'-according to Hayden,Casey and Brooke.
"He likes me?" I asked shocked.
"Yes,girly,have you seen your face?" Casey grinned.
"You heard him talking or is it just a rumor?" I raised an eyebrow.
"We heard him talking to one of his football buddies."Brooke looked down at her perfectly painted nails.
"Oh,and he's going to ask you out." Casey added.
Hayden and I both gasped at the same time. "He is?"My voice was an octave higher than it should've been.
"Yes!" Casey and Brooke shouted. The whole room fell silent and everyone stared at us.
"You can quit looking now."Hayden told our homeroom.
Everyone quickly turned back around and started talking again. "What should I tell Ryan?" I nervously bit my lip.
"I say tell him yes." Casey picked at her binders.
Brooke and Hayden nodded in agreement.
"I don't know,"
"Aw,Cal he's the schools hottest guy!" Hayden looked at my with wide brown eyes.
"When is he asking me out today?" I asked nervously.
"I think in between first and second period." Brooke smiled.
I looked at Brooke shocked. "That early?"
They all looked at me clearly baffled. "Yes! He really likes you!"My three best friends cried out in frustration.

"I honestly don't know what to say to Ryan." I shook my head.
"Say yes,"Casey said and Hayden and Brooke nodded excitedly.
The bell rang indicating that it was time to go to first period.
We all walked to english still talking about Ryan.
I honestly don't know what to say to Ryan.I want to say yes but I want to say no too because a certain jerk that calls me California has made me so guarded.
