YEONJUN scrunches his nose, yawning as he stretches. he squints, blinking a few times before glancing at jieun. her nose is buried in the book in front of her, reading tiny letters. she lifts her head up just enough to look at her laptop's screen before her, and starts typing her notes on a word document. yeonjun looks at his phone lying on the table and taps on the screen to check the time.

"ji," yeonjun says, tapping on the girl's shoulder.

jieun only hums as she continues to type away.

"we should get going," he says, "the library's going to close soon."

"okay."

they start cleaning up and putting away their supplies before getting out of their seats and tucking them back in underneath the table. yeonjun throws on his coat and grabs jieun's bag for her as she slips into her trench coat, wrapping a beige scarf around her neck quickly. they head out of the building and walk down the path towards the cafeteria. yeonjun stops, and jieun looks at him weirdly.

"we should go out to eat," he said, going up to her and grabbing her arms, jumping. "please? i really want to eat cold noodles and lamb skewers..."

jieun groans, pointing off into the far distance in front of her. "lead the way, i guess."

yeonjun laughs, dragging the girl off towards his favorite cold noodle place.

-

by the time yeonjun and jieun make it back to the campus, the sun's already replaced by the moon. jieun listens as yeonjun rants about his dance class and how some, "dufus," wouldn't take the classes seriously.

"ah," yeonjun groans, running a hand through his hair. "i really hate him. that park woojin... i really will end up fighting him one of these days."

jieun snickers, "you? fight park woojin? you're going to get pummeled into the ground, jun, let's be realistic here."

gasping, yeonjun hits jieun's shoulders, her laughter echoing in the air as yeonjun huffs. silence follows afterwards, covering the two like a blanket on that cold night. the dormitory building comes into sight; jieun and yeonjun quicken their pace, eager to head into the comfort of their small and warm room.

they're a few feet away from the building when yeonjun begins to speak.

"say," he speaks, "have you ever been in love jieun?"

jieun thinks for a moment, nodding her head after a few seconds. "yeah."

"and you never told me?"

jieun hums, shrugging her shoulder. "i never mentioned it because he won't ever see me the way i see him. i'll stick to admiring him from afar. it's the best option for both of us, anyways."

yeonjun rolls up the sleeves of his jacket and begins to punch the air in front of them as they walk into the building and make their way towards their room. "don't waste your time on him, ji! he sounds whack as fuck. he's super blind for noticing the amazing girl standing in front of him."

the girl chuckles in amusement. if only you knew, yeonjun. "and what about you, jun? have you ever been in love?" jieun asks as she opens the door to their room. she heads inside, kicking off her shoes and hanging up her coat and scarf. yeonjun does the same and trails after her, jumping on his own bed as jieun jumped on her own.

"well, i've never liked anyone," yeonjun says, staring down at his hands with a smile on his lips. "until i met haein."

there's the familiar feeling bubbling inside her stomach. jieun desperately wants to clear her throat, but she can't.

not in front of yeonjun.

"i... i think i love her, jieun. i think i love baek haein."

the petals scratch jieun's throat, the pain unbearable. jieun slaps her hand over her mouth and runs towards the bathroom, slamming it shut. she sinks down to the floor, coughing out tulip petals for what seems like ages to her. she coughs and coughs, wheezing for air afterwards as tears streamed down her face.

yeonjun's frantically knocking on the door, asking if she's okay. however, jieun blocks out the noise, focusing on the petals in front of her with wide and horrified eyes as she cries even harder.

the tulip petals colored blue and purple now had blotches of bright red splattered on them.
