Chapter 8

The next day, I got into drama class.
I still didn't know who my partner was, AND the dance is in 3 days now.

Wow, lucky me.

"Oh, hi, Clementine." The teacher said.

"Hi."

"I'm going to put you with Haley and Hazel."

"Okay." I replied, and they grinned.

I walked over to their table and sat down.

"Hey," they both say to me.
"Why weren't you here yesterday?"

"Oh, that? That was..uh.. nothing you need to worry about. Really. Anyways, let's work on the-"

"No, seriously. What's wrong?"

I ignore them. "What's the project about?"

"We won't talk to you until you say why you weren't here yesterday." Hazel says coldy.

They turn their backs on me.

"Fine," I say. "I'll tell you."

They whipped around and stared at me. "OKAY!!" Haley says in a really hyper voice.

We laugh. "Okay, okay. So I dropped one of my books- again, I know- and Rose came over and-"

"Oh." Hazel says, breaking me off.

"-ripped up my essay. I did it again, yesterday, though."

"Ok," Haley said. "So back to the project."

"It's about what sport you think is the most fun." Both the twins said in a really annoyed voice.

Yeah, they don't like any sports. Especially Hazel.
Unlike me.

"Well," I said, "Haley, you could do volleyball since you're trying out for it soon."

"Now that I think of it, that's actually a pretty good idea." She smiles.

"Hazel, you could do swimming," I said. "I mean, it's better than anything else for you, isn't it?"

"Meh," she replied. "I don't know. Maybe."

"Okay."

Arriving at history at the end of the day, I spotted Oliver sitting in front of me. Again.

I sit down behind him but don't say anything. Still mad at him, I start by jotting the objective of the day into my agenda.

But I obviously failed at that attempt because then he turned around. "Hey, look- I know you don't want me to talk to you, but-"

"Oh, and hey, look- there's the teacher. Guess I can't talk right now." I retorted, regretting what I said just a little bit.
