Chapter 7 (Oliver's POV)

I felt horrible, but, knowing Rose forced me to do this, didn't reply.

Clementine: Oliver?
Hey, Oliver?

Come on, don't ignore me...

I wanted to say something like "Can't talk right now", or, "Gtg".

But Rose said if I talk to her again it's the cutter-and-slicer for me.

So I'm not taking any risks.

Then, I reviewed our texts from yesterday-

Rose: Hey, Oliver! So, our plan WILL work tomorrow, ik it! 🔥😢🔥 BURN, CLEMENTINE! Ur still in it, RIGHT?

Me: Yes, Rose, I'm still in it...

Rose: GOOD. Remember, you have to embarrass her by laughing and pointing @ her. Or if that doesn't work, then just be at my side. K?

Me: Yup. Got it. Gtg now, see u tomorrow ❤

I got to school early enough so that Clementine wouldn't arrive anytime soon. I saw Rose near the hallway entrance, motioning for me to come quick.

And of course I ran over.

"Hey," I said, out of breath.

"Hi," she replied. "It's good you came. I needed someone's help." We sat down on the bench together, and she actually looked really pretty. For once.

"Yup," I said, staring at her. "Totally."

Okay. If that actually happened, it would be awkward. That's just what I thought. I actually said,

"Well, here's your help right in front of you."

"Yep."

Then the awkward feeling actually did come. We stared at each other for what seemed like 2 minutes before the bell rang and we saw Clementine.

"Crud!" We both said.

"Oliver, hurry, get to the locker rooms. I'll meet you there in a minute.
If I don't see you there, you're dead meat. Okay?"

"Okay," I said, and thought of The Fault In Our Stars.

Crud, why did I think of that corny, lovey-dovey book?? One thing was true, though; I didn't like Rose. At all.

UGH. FINE. Just.. a little bit. Like, 1%.

I think. Whatever.

Anyways, so I fast-walked over to the locker rooms, where I spotted Clementine just going to her locker.

But it was two seconds after that I saw Rose. She was determined, obviously, but me?

Yeah, not really. I was nervous.
Really. No kidding.

Then, I heard the sound of a BANG and knew that Clementine dropped one of her books.
Again. For the MILLIONTH time.

Perfect for the plan, though.

"Hey, Clementine," Rose said to her.
"Looks like you've dropped something."

She picked up her folder, and instead of giving it back to her, took out this random piece of paper that I guess was important and ripped it into shreds.

Rose nugded me in the shoulder. I knew this was my time to shine. I fake laughed and pointed at Clementine, just like Rose demanded.

I kept feeling these pangs of guilt, but ignored them. After a while, though, Clementine just walked away.

Now was my time to talk to her. "Clementine," I said.

But she didn't want anything to do with me and ran away.

I'm such an idiot.
