Chapter 4: ICE ICE, BABY

Lila walked along a sidewalk on campus. She hummed a song as she stepped on the concrete. The sun was going down, the sky turning a dark purple. Suddenly, she walked into a cloud of cold air. She inhaled, surprised by the sudden change in temperature. She wrapped her arms around each other, cluttering her teeth. She slipped, but catching herself. She looked down. A thin sheet of ice layered the cement.
"Ice? It's August.." She mumbled, trying to get a stable stance on the slippery platform. She heard footsteps coming from in front of her. She squinted her eyes, trying to see through the fog. A tall, skinny teenager emerged in front of her. He had frost on his eye brows and eye lashes, his nose and cheeks were a bright cherry red. Lila looked at him with confusion, not recognizing the student.
"Lila, isn't it..?" The student had a low, smooth voice. His long white hair seemed to flow down his face.
"How do you know?" Lila looked at the stranger, trying not to slip.
"I've come to warn you." He said, his breathe turning into steam.
"Warn me?" Her blue eyes widened.
"My father owns Striker's Laboratory.. I'm here to warn you that they have found your location." He said calmly, looking at Lila with his deep red eyes.
"Don't you like your father?" Lila asked him, a bit surprised.
"Huh..? what do reckon?" He asked her.
"I bet he treats you horribly.." She began to feel bad for the student. "Do you go to this school?"
"Mhm." He nodded, his red eyes staying focused on Lila.
"Ice, huh?" Lila looked down at the sheet of ice she was standing on. He nodded, the ice starting to melt. "What's your name?" She asked him.
"Eunoia Striker." He replied. Lila nodded, noticing Eunoia's frost bitten fingers.
"You look cold." She looked back up to his red, frosty face. Eunoia shook his head slowly, closing his frosty eyelids. Lila looked at him, closing her mouth.
"Would you like to come to my dorm to warm up a bit?" She asked him. He nodded, the ice completely melted. They walked out of the cloud of cold air and into the warm air again. She noticed the frost on his eyebrows and eyelashes didn't melt.
"Some power you have." She told him, looking back ahead.
"Yeah." Eunoia nodded, his breathe oddly still coming out as steam. Lila noticed that she was still cold, even in the 80 degree weather. She walked closer to him, feeling the freezing air radiating off of him. She looked at the sidewalk, wondering what she got herself into.

OPERATION SUICIDE: ICE ICE, BABY

She arrived at her dorm. She walked in, letting Eunoia go first. Token looked over from the desk, his face immediately having a confused expression.
"Wow.." Token looked at Eunoia then to Lila. "Is it cold outside?" He asked them.
"No. This is Eunoia Striker. He has ice powers and he's also the owner of Striker's Laboratory's son." Lila told him. Token walked up to Eunoia, holding out his hand.
"Token Mahlori, nice to meet you." Token smiled. Eunoia's red eyes went from Token's face to his hand. He shook Token's hand, sending a wave of cold up Token's arm. Token nervously smiled, looking at Eunoia's dark purple fingers. He let his hand go, noticing he now had a little bit of frost on his finger tips. It quickly melted. He looked up to Eunoia in a weird way. "Why are you here?" He asked Eunoia.
"My father knows your location." He sniffled, slowly blinking. Token looked over to Lila, slightly disturbed.
"We either fight or hide." Lila told Token.
"If I hide I would sound like a baby." Token sighed.
"Eunoia?" She looked over to the cold student. "Will you fight alongside us?" She asked him. He nodded, closing his eyes. "Great!" Lila smiled. Token smiled as well, looking from Lila to Eunoia.
"We need to tell Adyn, Knox, and Noel." Token said.
"Hm.. Aydn won't take this well." Lila shook her head.

They all agreed to meet in the cafeteria after school hours.
They were all there, except for Aydn. Noel looked over to Eunoia with a concerned look.
"You're very cold.." She told him, shivering a little. Eunoia looked over to Noel.
"Sorry." He said, slowly blinking. He lied his head down on the table and closed his eyes. Suddenly, the cafeteria door slammed open. They all flinched, quickly looking over. Adyn stood there, her face surprised and her eyes wide.
"What?" She looked at Eunoia, who was starring right at her.
"Why are you so aggressive?" Lila yawned, looking at her cousin. Adyn stormed over, standing next to the table.
"Getting your attention is hard." Aydn said, crossing her arms.
"You're late." Noel told her.
"Yeah, well suck it up." Aydn scrunched her nose. Noel looked over to Aydn, not saying anything more. "Who is this freak and why is it so cold in here?!" Aydn pointed to Eunoia.
"This is Eunoia, he's the owner of the lab's son." Token said, looking over to Aydn.
"This freak is Striker's son?!" Aydn yelled.
"Yeah, you don't need to yell." Token was clearly annoyed. Aydn looked at the frosty teenager, smoke blowing out from her nose. Eunoia closed his eyes, acknowledging the type of person Aydn is.
"Me and you are not gonna get along." She growled, her eyes narrowing.
"You don't get along with anyone, Aydn." Lila rubbed her forehead, mainly observing the scene. Aydn daringly looked over to her, scrunching her nose. Eunoia smirked, looking over to Lila. Knox starred at Aydn, not even blinking. Noel looked over to Aydn, pressing her lips together.
"He's going to help us." Noel told the raging teenager.
"Or is he a spy? We never know!" Aydn yelled, looking over to Boel with fiery eyes.
"Don't be so negative! I'm sure he isn't." Noel sighed. Aydn growled, looking over to Eunoia.
"I'll keep my eye on you.." she mumbled.
"Enough!" Token yelled. "We all need to work together." He pressed his lips together, looking at all of his teammates. "I was born into a supernatural family. They taught me how to control my power and use it to my advantage. I may be a coward at times, but I know how to fight when my whole future is in danger. Some of us may be different, but that's what makes us stronger. We've all been through things that have put us down but whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." He gave his peers a daring look. "So what do you say?" He grinned with confidence. "For the future!" He threw his fist into the air, glaring at the others.
"For the future!" They all chanted. All except for one of them. Knox sat at the table, his face blank and his eyes dark. They all looked over to him, slowly putting their fists down.
"Knox..?" Lila leaned forward in her seat and lied her hand on top of his, feeling the coldness of his fist. He glared up to her, his brown eyes clearly drained and worn.
"I can't." He shakily said, pain in his eyes.
"Yes you can!" Lila told him, looking at his shadowed face.
"You're only strong because you can control your power!" He spoke louder than he usually did, which left them all shocked. "Just like my mother said.." his painful eyes looked at Lila with a sorrowful feeling. "I'm not fit for battle." He put his head down, Lila seeing tears hit the surface of the table. Lila didn't know what to say. She watched her cousin suffer, almost feeling the pain radiate off of him. Even Aydn didn't speak. They all were left speechless, starring at the painful teenager. He stood up, wiping a tear from under his eye. He stormed out, looking at the ground and clenching his fists. Lila watched him leave, slowly sitting herself down.
"Where is he going?" Noel asked the others, her eyes still wide.
"Home." Lila answered, looking over to Noel.

"You're speech was amazing yesterday!" Lila smiled, watching Token.
"I'm afraid I might've agitated Knox." Token said, lifting weights.
"You're fine. If he doesn't think he can do it, then maybe he isn't fit for the job." Lila sighed.
"Yeah. Maybe he would've just been a burden anyway. His attitude would get annoying." Token grinned, trying to look on the bright side.
"We miss him, I can tell." Lila exhaled, slowly blinking.
"I wish he never left. His power could've been useful." Token nodded.
Lila also nodded.
Token sighed, trying to lift weights.
"I'm too weak." He sat down on the bench, looking over to Lila.
"How about you try to use your power!" Lila suggested, smiling. Token looked at her for a moment before turning his head to see a rat in the corner of the gym. He closed he starred at the rat deeply, taking a bug inhale. Suddenly, the rat froze before slowly walking over to him. The rat them curled up and went asleep in front of his feet. Lila watched in awe.
"I'm working on doing bigger creatures and bigger crowds at once." Token told her, looking at the sleeping rodent.
"Well, I think you'll do good." She smiled, her eyes cheery and blue. They heard the shrieking sound of scraping metal against concrete floors. Their eyes widened, turning to look over to see what was making the horrible sound. Black combat boots made an echo for each step they took, the sunlight glaring off of the buckles. They gasped, Lila smiling at the sight. Knox stood there, his face serious and devoted. He held two samurai swords. The ends of the swords rested on the cold concrete. Suddenly, he held one of them up to the sky, his brown eyes looking at the ground. He gripped them tightly, his fingertips white.
"For the future." He said, confidence in his low voice. Lila smiled, running over to her cousin. She hugged him tightly, slightly chuckling.
"You're back! Why?" Lila asked him, looking at his courageous expression.
"I was being selfish. My help is better than none." He told her, putting the sword back by his side.
"You're a great warrior, Nokkusu. You just need to come out of your shell." Lila told him, daringly grinning. Knox gave her a nod, his long black hair blowing in the breeze that came from the open doors. "You're made of titanium, Knox. You have a heart of stone."

They all met up at Token's dorm that night..

It's gonna be a Suicide Mission." Token told them, placing a piece of paper down on the table. They all looked from the paper to Token.
"A what?" Aydn asked, looking at Token with an unbothered expression.
"We are gonna go in there knowing that we might not make it out alive." Token said, placing his finger on the paper. "Aydn, we are gonna need your fire and rage." He told her, his eyes focused and devoted. He slid his finger down. "Noel, we're gonna need your healing just in case we get a small injury." He looked up to her, seeing her face was confident and courageous. "Lila, we're gonna need your intelligence and Telekinesis." He said, nodding to her. She nodded, a daring grin crossing her face.
"Eunoia, we're gonna need your ice and coldness to slow them down." He looked over to the cold teenager. Eunoia nodded, closing his red eyes. Knox looked at Token with shadowed brown eyes, gripping the swords tightly. Token looked over to Knox, pressing his lips together.
"Knox." Token said, his green eyes widening. "We need your martial arts skills, quick reflexes, and your light footsteps." He told dark teen. Knox gave Token a daring look, his narrow eyes slowly blinking. "As for me, I'll use my Mind Control the best I can." Token said, standing up. "Good luck. The most we can do right now is train." He looked at his fellow warriors, giving a fearless grin.
"We got this!" Noel shouted, quickly standing up. Aydn scrunched her nose, snorting.
"Don't say that too soon, Noel." She looked over to her cousin.
"It's never to early to be confident!" Noel smiled, looking over to Aydn.
"It's always too early to be confident." Aydn hoisted herself up, her blue eyes scanning her peers. "If we want to fight thousands of military soldiers, then it can't just be us 6 children." She slowly walked around the table, her hands behind her back. "There will be 5 teams. Team Token, Team Noel, Team Lila, Team Nokkusu, and Team Aydn." She inhaled, her blue eyes still scanning the others.
"What about Eunoia?" Lila asked her, her face slightly disturbed by Adyn's sudden leadership.
"Elsa will be on Team Lila." Aydn looked over to Eunoia, her eyes narrowing. Eunoia growled, not liking Adyn's nickname for him. Lila looked to Eunoia, slightly smirking.
"Don't worry. We are strong together." She said under her breathe. Eunoia nodded, agreeing with Lila.
"You all need to recruit your own soldiers. Choose wisely, because they will be fighting by your side." Aydn told them, stopping beside Token. They all nodded, agreeing with Aydn for once. "And choose quickly, we have a little less than a month to recruit and train." She added. "Who's with me?" She smiled, looking courageously at her fellow soldiers. They all threw their fist into the air, their faces focused and ready. "Then it's official." She clenched her fist before throwing it up too. "Operation Suicide is underway!"
