Hemidall had recited what he always did when I was about to use the Bifrost and hurl myself through time and space to Jötunheimr. I looked from Hemidall as he stood with his sword in the lock, set to turn it at the moment I would nod.
I now looked over my shoulder to Thor; he stood tall and brave, ready to fight for Asgard and for our families. It was time to put an end to Laufey's reign for good. I couldn't lose my family again to his tricks. No... I couldn't, and I wouldn't.
"Turn the lock." I spoke, stepping down from the platform. Thor followed suit. Hemidall looked to us both before he turned his two-handed scepter, "I do hope you understand there will be consequences for your actions, my king. The Allfather will know of this by the time you return."
I looked over my shoulder to Hemidall as he stood tall; his shoulders squared. Should I really take the chance? Was it worth it?
"Turn the lock, Hemidall." I stated, more firmly, while looking towards the portal of the Bifrost. He nodded once and instantly Thor took my arm as I did his. A bright flash of light pulled us through and that indescribable sensation of going through the depths of space with no more than a thin sheet of light protecting you from hurling into the gravitational pulls of the other realms was amazing.
I closed my eyes and felt Thor's feet meet the snow beneath us at the exact time mine did. It was quiet as the wind blew past us. It was chilling and I made the move to begin walking towards the palace door. As we approached it closer, I could see no repairs had been made the side of the building we had Banner break down. The only notable difference was that it had fresh snow lying upon the fallen shards of ice.
"This way." I whispered to Thor. He followed by my side as we entered as quietly as possible. The corpses of the Frost Giants killed were not decomposing but rather left to freeze and be preserved in the ice. "Something isn't right." Thor stated aloud as we un-tensed while continuing for the stairs that would lead to the Throne Room.
"I do believe you're correct brother..." I heard a loud chuckle; that which sounded of a drunken fool. It was deep, mischievous. It was Laufey's... I looked to Thor before looking around us.
"You continue looking around the palace; allow me to deal with Laufey."
"I don't believe that is the wisest idea you've been able to brew up." Thor gave a concerned look and I could only shake my head in response.
"One day I know I'll regret this. But it must end now; with himself and I. It cannot continue on like this. I must go alone. If I need your assistance..." My voice broke off at the endless possibilities of events that could occur soon. "I'm sure you'll know when to come help."
"Be careful my brother. He is a man of tricks; a man of lies." I chuckled at Thor's observation of Laufey. "My dear brother you are describing myself as well, he is my father and it shall be me who takes his blood on my hands. He brought me into the universe; and now I will remove him from its very threads."
Thor nodded with a smile, patting my shoulder before cautiously heading the opposite direction of the stairs. I quickly picked up my pace to make my way to the Throne Room. After running up the many steep steps and skidding to a halt at the throne room doors; I could hear his voice.
Laufey was mumbling incoherent nonsense. I shook my head and pushed the door open slowly. Quietly to a point in which I did not even hear it slide across the ice.
But Laufey's superior hearing heard it. As I walked into the Throne Room; Laufey stood before a makeshift fire in the middle of the room. Its flames danced wildly over the wood and its smoke made love with the air as they intertwined and flew up to the ceiling. His head slowly moved to the side and he spoke in a rather calm voice.
