Had he gone yet? I heard footsteps leaving the room after Steve had punched the bathroom door...
Dear Odin... how much I'd pray to just be in Asgard with my brother, my father, my cousins Alvis and Magnum, and to have my mother again. I just didn't feel wanted by anyone else other than Steve, who I wasn't even sure wanted to have me stay with him anymore.
I now sat on the cold tiled floor of the guest room's bathroom, leaning against the door in nothing but blue sweats and a blue tank top. I couldn't help but feel bad. He had passed out and when he woke up we almost kissed. I knew my feelings for him were becoming more definite but... I knew of all people, Steve would never choose me.
You know he wants you. Why don't you just admit it to yourself Annabelle?
There went the little voice in my head again. I was talking to myself again... I sighed and closed my eyes as I clutched the necklace around my neck in my right hand. Of all females in the Nine Realms why would he choose me?
Because he likes you?
No he doesn't like me and he never will, I'm just that little girl who grew up with a crush on him...
Whatever you say Annabelle.
"Go away conscience... please go away..." I mumbled, letting my head gently fall back against the door before being startled by a gentle knock. I froze and it continued. "Ocupado." I said as I stood to my feet.
"Annabelle, please come out." Steve's voice came through. "You've been in there for a good hour now. At least lock yourself in your room instead of the bathroom..."
Sadness was evident in his voice and it made me feel bad. I guess I should have just given in and just ignore the fact he tried to beat down the door...
I turned the door-knob and a slight 'click' echoed in the bathroom, signaling it was now unlocked. I peeked my head out and I looked up to him. All he wore now was a black t-shirt and jeans.
"Hi." I muttered. He smiled kindly and moved to leave the room. "Wait, Steve..." Quickly I said as I walked into the room and stopped him at the door. "Please don't be mad at me... I'm sorry."
Steve yawned and smiled tiredly. "It's quite alright. Just get some rest and we'll talk in the morning, okay?"
I nodded in response. Steve smiled kindly once more, walked over before me, kissed my forehead gently, then left. The door closed behind him and there I was, left in the room stunned that his lips had even touched my skin. It left a warm spot there and I blushed without any control over it.
Slowly I made my way over to the closet, picking up my bag from the bed and throwing it into the open closet, emptied of its contents. After a good 20 minutes of procrastinating and just walking around, the phone rang. It startled me and I almost jumped behind something.
It seemed as if it rang on forever when I decided to ignore it, but it just kept at it. I groaned and didn't want Steve to be awakened, supposing he was asleep, so I hurried to the landline phone on the end table beside my bed and answered it.
"Hello?" I spoke through, twirling my index finger through the curled chord.
"Hi, is Steve Rogers available?" The female voice replied softly over the line and a pang of jealousy sprung through me.
"He isn't available but I can take a message."
There were a few voices in the background before the woman's voice spoke again. "Um, may I ask who I'm speaking to?" She asked in a frustrated tone.
