Loki shook my hand firmly and I could tell he had noticed Annabelle's hand linked with mine, and I hoped he did. I cared for her and in some way it felt weird knowing I helped raise her but, it felt so right to know that she was the one I loved.

     L... o... v... e... d... loved...

"I'm so glad to see you dad!" Annabelle released my hand and threw herself into Loki's arms once again. He held her close and they just stood there in a fatherly-daughter embrace as if he was a soldier going to war. It made me feel happy inside to see her so happy.

"I missed you too, princess." Loki replied, not letting go of her. Fury looked to me and I nodded, knowing exactly what he meant. I turned and began to walk off to the elevator that would take me back to the labs. As I was walking off I heard Fury telling Loki

"I'll let you two catch up. I'll send for Barton to escort you both down to the lobby where we'll all meet up."

"Thank you, Nick, that would be... great." Loki's voice traveled to me and it was much more relaxed, calmer than when it had been when he and I last met. As I pressed the button to the elevator, I heard footsteps coming from behind me. I looked back to see Fury making his way towards me.

"C'mon, we need to talk." Nick ushered me into the small metallic room of the elevator. As the doors closed, Nick leant against one of the railings, I following suit to the one parallel from him.

"So, what is it you wanna talk about?" I gave the push on the conversation.

"Well, I saw how close you and Annabelle seemed to be," Nick began as his one good eye watched me, but I could feel the heat of both of them.  "I'm not wrong am I, Captain?"

"Well... no I guess you're right." I knew that he was onto something and it wasn't good.

"Yes, well... Captain whatever it is must end here. She is only a guest of Emi and Stark. She can be nothing more because once everything is settled between her world, she'll be returning."

"But..." Nick cut me off mid-sentence, "And I will see to it that you do not disobey my order, is that understood Captain?"

"But Nick, I love her; you can't take her away from me so quickly when I just have gotten her settled into the Towers with Emi and Tony. It'll break her." I protested.

"Captain, I'm starting to think you are confusing love with affection." Nick looked at me intensely as I could feel my cheeks warming with frustration. When I did not say anything, he continued in a softer voice, but it was just as harsh. "You're in a state of infatuation, it's a short-lived love that will fizzle out." I looked to the director in utter disbelief at what he just said. How would he know? He only loved once in his life.

As the elevator doors opened, I pressed the button that would keep them closed for a moment. Nick shot me a look and I walked towards him. "How would you know anything about love? You only loved one woman in your entire life, and you killed her. But you were so well in the government that they hid it all away. So I don't think you have any duty to tell me who I can and cannot love."

Nick's expression was hard and blank, unable to be read. But when he spoke, his voice was cold and hard, "How do you know that?"

"I did my research after I woke up from my 70 years of sleep." I didn't break his gaze until he spoke again.

"Watch yourself Captain." He threatened as he came closer." I just want what is best for you and the girl." With that Nick left the elevator and walked into the labs, leaving me in the quiet elevator, my many thoughts screaming as they hit the walls I was confined within'. I guess now I would just have to wait until I saw Annabelle again to tell her about Fury's orders.

I knew that I loved her; I had loved her for some time now. But my ignorance to accept it had only now ended. When I had saw her in a daydream, crying in my arms on the floor, I knew that all I wanted to do was protect her and give her a life worth cherishing. She didn't have anyone besides Loki and me.

But... I'm just a kid from Brooklyn. She's a princess from another world.
