(The Next Day)
When you want to describe a subjective term Cuteness, the faces surrounding the outside table at a restaurant are a perfect example of a type of attractiveness associated with appearance.
Sane Cele and her two best friends since high school; Amanda and Andiswa. You can often use the word 'beauty' as many times as you want to describe these three beautiful women.
Sane sips her strawberry milkshake, and she cranes her eyes to console her friends as they seem as if they have something on their mind they fear to spit out.
"Come out with it guys. I know when you steal glances you have something you want to say." said Sane, demonstrating her curiosity.
Her curly hair looks so good on her light complexion, possessing her beauty even greater.
Finally, Amanda is nonchalant when she asks, "Sane, do you like men?"
Sane stares at her friends incomprehensible, "Of course I like men, why would you even ask me that."
"Because the last time you had a boyfriend was when you were in matric. And you lasted with him for two months." said Andiswa, with a voice so swiftly when she speaks.
"And the fact that you are still a virgin." said Amanda, and Sane rolled her eyes.
"At least you can be a person who has a few morals and has lots of sexual relationships if you are afraid of love." said Andiswa.
Sane's mouth dropped when she heard Andiswa suggesting she should be a rakish person.
But Andiswa doesn't make her feel punched in the gut when she adds,
"Look I'm not trying to be disrespectful and cheeky. But a 30 year old woman and still a virgin?"
"Come on girl. What's going on with you?" Amanda asks.
"I don't know how many times I have to tell you guys. I'm wa-"
Amanda cuts her off, "Please don't tell me you are still waiting for that boy you dated when you were 13?"
Amanda and Andiswa reaction seems ghastly at the thought.
They have been hearing about this mysterious boy for almost every year, and they think Sane is being absurd to think the kind of love even exists after such a long time being apart.
"I am," Sane parried. "And tomorrow is June 15th. The time has finally come."
Sane is being inscrutable, and that is tormenting her friends because her vehement denial about this boy will break her heart.
"Even if this boy does show up tomorrow. What if he's not the same person you were in love with?" said Andiswa, staring at her with concern.
"Then we will find the connection we once had and make it work. We have too." said Sane, with enthusiasm in her voice.
"Or even worse. What if he's married?" said Amanda.
Sane looks away, her mind showing lots of attention and interest to Amanda's question.
After a long silence, she said, "There's only one person that has a place in his heart. And that's me."
Amanda and Andiswa feel agitated by her response, and they bury the conversation to avoid a feeling of being an enemy to their friend.
But they are certain this whole thing with this boy is going to be anticlimactic - a disappointing ending.
