The White Witch and her faithful followers were preparing for war, and she fully expected her daughter to fight at her side.

What she wasn't expecting, however, was for Diana to not want to fight for a woman who killed so mercilessly.

"You shouldn't have done that, you know." Diana said, sitting down next to Edmund who had been tied up to a tree trunk. His mouth was gagged, so he only looked at her. Diana had cried over the poor fox as soon as they had arrived at her mother's camp. She hadn't wanted anyone to see her so she had hidden away in her tent until her eyes were dry enough.

She smoothed out the light blue of her skirt. All of her clothing was blue. It was her mother's favorite color, as ice tended to glow blue. So, naturally, everything Diana owned was blue.

"It wouldn't have mattered whether the fox had spit up the information or not." She said sadly. "She was going to kill him anyways."

Diana looked over her shoulder to check that her mother was still in deep conversation with the general of her army, a minotaur, before turning back to Edmund and slipping a dagger out of the sleeve of her dress.

His eyes widened and he pulled back as much as he could.

"I'm not going to hurt you." She promised. "We're leaving." He relaxed slightly. "I think I can help you find your family, if you'd like." Edmund nodded and Diana gave him a soft smile.

"My fourteenth birthday is next week." She told him as she raised the dagger to cut the gag from his mouth. He remained as still as possible as she sliced through the fabric. "Not that it really matters, but how old are you?"

Edmund, now able to talk, coughed as she pulled the fabric from his mouth, checking over her shoulder again to make sure she was still not anyone's center of attention.

"I turn fifteen in four months." He said, puffing out his chest. She nodded.

"Do you get presents for your birthday?" She asked as she cut the binds around his abdomen that tied him to the trunk.

He nodded. "Yes, and we have cake and ice cream too."

"What's ice cream?" She asked, looking up at him with confusion. "I mean, my mother is the queen of all things ice and I have never heard of it."

Edmund had already made the connection that Diana was Jadis' daughter, but hearing the confirmation made his stomach swarm with nerves.

"Well," He paused, trying to come up with the perfect explanation. "It's kind of like, frozen, sweet milk."

Diana wrinkled her nose. "Oh, I don't like minotaur milk all that much. It tastes like the underside of a dwarf. I'm not sure why anyone would want to eat ice cream."
