•CHAPTER 5•
"I will not kill you." Jadis told her daughter as Ginnabrik dragged Diana up onto the Stone Table. Slow, silent tears were leaking down the girl's face and she was trying her best not to let out a sob.
"But you will be punished." Jadis removed a dagger made of ice from a fold in her dress. The sob finally slipped out of Diana's mouth. "I will not apologize, daughter, as you have brought this upon yourself. If only you had listened to me..."
Jadis shook her head. "Remove her dress." She ordered Ginnabrik. He nodded and grabbed at Diana's neckline. He pulled harshly, ripping the dress at its seams. Diana flinched, now only left in the shift she wore underneath.
"You'll be lucky if Aslan gets here before the rats do." Jadis sneered. Diana knew then, that she would still die, even if her mother didn't kill her. She would die if Aslan didn't save her. She would be eaten alive.
When the first cut came, Diana screamed around her gag. Jadis dragged the knife down her daughter's arm and warm blood flowed over Diana's skin, dripping down onto the Stone Table.
When the second cut came, Diana was already dizzy. And this time, she didn't scream. She did cry out, however. She only focused on the twitching of her fingers as tears fell from her eyes, over her nose and down her temple, dampening her hair that was already streaked with dirt from being dragged across soil.
Just keep twitching your fingers.
You deserve this.
When the third cut came, Diana didn't even whimper. She laid still and for a moment, Jadis thought her daughter was dead. But then she made the fourth cut, the longest one from the back of her right shoulder all the way across her back to her left hip, Diana gasped.
"You've had your punishment, Jadis." Came Aslan's voice. The sun had set and the witch smiled. "Grab her, Oreius."
Diana had passed out, her fingers had stopped twitching. Oreius scooped Diana up into his arms. He had never run so fast in his life. By the time he made it back to Aslan's camp, Diana's breathing had turned so shallow that Oreius was afraid he had already lost her.
"Queen Lucy!" He called, his voice panicked. "Queen Lucy!" In the short amount of time he had known Diana, he had grown to care for the bubbly girl. She was amazing with a sword and so terribly kind. He wouldn't lose this new warrior.
"I'm really tired." Came Diana's voice, sounding breathy and whimsical.
Oreius glanced down at her to see that her eyes were open, though they were lidded.
"Queen Lucy!" He called again.
"Yes?" A small voice said from behind him. Oreius turned to see a sleepy looking Lucy walking out of her tent. Her eyes widened upon seeing the white haired girl in his arms, slow drops of blood falling to the ground.
