chapter 13

'mike' 

mike turned around at his name being called, finding out that his mom said his name. Mike suddenly had this overwhelming fear rise into him. Would his mom accept him? Would she hate him and kick him out the house? He knew his father was homophobic and didn't like gay people but he wasn't sure about his mother. Karen had a look of shock and confusion on her face, she wanted to know why her son never told her about this.

Mike looked over at Will who had a comforting smile on his face, an encouragement smile. Some of Mike's fear vanished as Will's smile. He knew everything would be ok because he knew, Will would always be here for him. It didn't matter if his family didn't support him, he would always have Will by his side.

'i think we need to talk Michael.' Karen said as Mike looked back at his mother and he nodded slowly, unsure of how to handle this situation. Karen looked at Joyce and made a head movement towards the door, asking if she could go back inside with her son. Joyce nodded in understanding. 

As for Joyce...she was thrilled that Will was with Mike! She always knew there was something happening between Mike and Will, She could tell that those 2 boys had a connection. Not in the way two best friends have, because Mike and Will were different. She knew that. They were more closer with each other than any other of their best friends in their little party. You could say that she already knew they were going to get together in the future.

As for Jonathan and Nancy...well, they already knew about there relationship but were of course happy for them, Nancy's reactions were all over the place when Will kissed Mike. She was proud and smirking slightly with Jonathan, looking at their little brothers but then she remembered that Karen was their, her mother. She didn't know how she would respond to all of this, the subject never came up of gay people and stuff, expect when their dad would say it was wrong. She just kept silent and didn't give her opinion. She just hoped their mother would accept Mike and would accept that being gay isn't wrong and that she would accept who he loves and who he wants. 

They all watched as Mike and Karen walked through the door of the new Byers house, Mike was fiddling with his hands nervously. And Karen had a look on her face that not any of them could describe, she was full of emotion; scared, shocked, confused and there was a tint of happiness and a supporting look in her eyes. 

Just as they were walking in, El walked past them. She gave Mike a warm smile as she went past them, walking outside where the others were. When Will saw El, his face beamed a big smile. He really did love her as if she were his real sister. El ran forward to Will and put her arms around him tightly. Will happily hugged back. He was so grateful for El, she has done so much for him. Yes he might of hated her in the past and was jealous of her but at least now they were on good terms. She has saved his life multiple times which Will is so grateful for, she also helped her ex boyfriend get together with someone else! She really was so loyal to everyone, however she might feel. 

Will and El pulled away from the hug after a few seconds. Will sighed as he stared at the door that Karen and Mike just went through. He was worried for Mike but was kind off excited to be fair, he has a feeling that Karen will accept Mike. She wasn't the type of woman to not support her children. Will suddenly felt someone grab his shoulder, he looked to the side to see his mother there, she had a warm smile and a reassuring look on her face. 'why didn't you tell me honey?' Joyce asked quietly. Will sighed, 'I didn't think you would...you know. Accept me...' Joyce sighed shaking her head, 'of course I would support you Will, I still do now!' A smile formed on Will's face, he started to get tears in his eyes as he pulled his mother into a hug. Joyce smiled as she hugged her son back. She pulled away from the hug and wiped Will's tears of his face, 'Will, you are still my son, just because you are gay, doesn't change anything. Plus I knew something was going to happen between you and Mike. You two had too much chemistry growing up.' Will smiled shyly, 'you think?' Joyce nodded with a smile on her face, then Will sighed again. 

'I really hope Mrs Wheeler will accept Mike...' 

........with Mike and Karen........

They were both in the Byers living room. Sitting in silence until Karen broke it, 'why didn't you tell me Michael?' Mike looked up at that, 'oh I don't know mom, maybe because my dad is homophobic and I thought you would be the same and I did not know if you were going to accept me and I don't know maybe I was scared!' Mike said loudly and firmly. 

Karen sighed at her son's burst, 'I don't hate you or anything Michael...I just wish you would of told me, i'm your mother, why wouldn't I accept you?' Mike's eyes opened wide. 'y-you accept me mom?' Karen smiled and nodded her head, 'i'm just glad you are happy Mike and I am glad you found the person you want to be with.' Karen paused and thought of what to say, 'I don't care who they are. Girl...Boy...I don't care Michael, I am just glad that you are happy.' 

Mike sighed with relief, running his hands through his hair. Trying not to get tears in his eyes. Karen smiled at her son as she pulled him into a loving hug, Mike hugged back tightly. He could not believe that his mom accepted him. 'I love you mom...thank you so much' Karen pulled away and cupped Mike's face in her hands, 'I love you too Mike and that will never change.' Mike nodded smiling, 'thanks mom.' 

Karen nodded her head, 'I wouldn't mention this to your dad...not just yet. I don't think he would be happy and I don't think he will accept..' Mike nodded, 'of course, I wasn't planning on telling him anyway. He's an Asshole.' Karen laughed slightly and nodded her head. 

'mom...there was one more thing I wanted to ask you...' 

.....after their talk.......

Mike ran out of the Byers house and ran up to Will with a massive smile on his face. Will smiled once he saw his boyfriend. 

'so, what happened-' Mike interrupted Will, 'she accepts me Will!' 

'Oh my god mike! That's great!' Will said loudly, Mike smiled and whispered in Will's ear. Will's eyes went wide, 'really?!' Mike nodded, 'so uh will you?' Mike paused as he looked at the shorter boys face as Will was thinking of what he should do. 'Listen, I just don't want to miss you again...you don't have too...but I thought maybe you and El could come back and stay with us so I both of us wouldn't have to miss each other!' 

Will sighed, 'what about your dad?' Mike rubbed his neck thinking about it, 'well. He wont know! We just will have to not tell him!' Will sighed, 'fine, I will...but me and El will have to pack quickly.' 

'Mike! Are they coming?' Karen asked as she moved to the car. El frowned confused as she looked at Mike for answers. Mike looked over at El, 'do you wanna come back to Hawkins? And stay at my house for a bit El? You can see Max again!' El rolled her eyes as if it was a rhetorical question, 'yes i want to come back to Hawkins!' 

It was official, Will Byers and El Hopper were going back to Hawkins.
