Chapter 1

Mike's POV

It's Christmas time and the Byers and El are coming to Hawkins, to meet with everyone again. Mike was really, really nervous to see Will and El again. After he had realised his feelings for Will, he didn't know what to do. He thought he could maybe talk to Nancy about it, but he decided not too, he didn't want Nancy to hate him or be disappointed in him.

He was nervous to see El because he was planning to break up with her. But he really didn't want to hurt her, he loved El just he didn't love her the way she loved him...don't get him wrong, he did love El the same way she does to him once before. But now, he has realised he just wanted to be her friend and not a couple, he wanted to be with Will.

But Mike also doubted that Will would ever like him back. He hurt Will plus Mike didn't even know if Will was gay or would ever like him like that. He probably thinks they are just best friends, nothing more.

Mike sighed, he didn't know what to do. He didn't want to hurt El and he didn't want Will or his big sister to hate him.
"Mike!!" Nancy was knocking and yelling from outside the door of the Wheeler's basement. "El and Will are going to be here soon! Are you ready?"

Mike didn't respond. Because he wasn't ready. He felt tears swell up in his eyes.

Then he heard Nancy opening the door and walking down the steps
"Mike-" Nancy saw Mike crying into his hands. Nancy opened her mouth in shock. "Mike?" She said as she walked over to him and sat by him. "What's wrong?" Nancy asked worried. Mike looked up and looked at Nancy wiping his tears. "Im fine Nancy..." Mike said quietly
Nancy gave him a 'mhm' look. "Now tell me what's wrong, you're my little brother, I have to look out for you when you're sad." Nancy told Mike.
Mike sighed, "you're going to hate me..."
"Who says I already don't?" Saying it as a joke, Nancy laughed. "Oh..." Mike looked down sadly.
"I was only joking you idiot! Plus I could never hate you alright Mike? You may be annoying sometimes but you're my little brother, it's my job to love you"
Mike nodded slowly. "So what's up?" Nancy asked. "Are you nervous to see El again? Because you haven't seen her in a while?" Nancy smiles "it's ok to be nervous to see her again, I'm nervous to see Jonathan but you don't have to worry, El will be very happy to see you." Mike sighed angrily "I know she will be happy to see me! I don't know what to do Nancy!!"
Nancy was shocked by her brother's snap. Nancy frowned slightly "what's up with you? Seriously."
"I-" Mike started "I-I don't love El anymore..." Mike said slowly. Nancy was shocked, "but that day at the cabin-" Nancy started
"I know! Alright!" Mike yelled. " I don't know what I was thinking! Maybe I thought I loved her..that's why I said that...I kinda liked the idea of her and I wanted a girlfriend and for you, mom and dad to be proud of me..."
Nancy frowned, "Mike...you can talk to me. You know that? You could of told me you were feeling this way sooner-" Nancy began but Mike interrupted her.
"N-No I couldn't! I have feelings for someone else ok? I've realised I've had a crush on them for like forever and I didn't realise and I'm so mad at myself for not realising before so I wouldn't have to hurt El..."

Nancy sighed "Who is it?" Who do you like? Or love? Whatever." Nancy asked, "is it Max?" Mike shook his head violently "No! Eww!" Mike groaned

"Fine! Who is it then? Someone from school?" Nancy was giving up and had no idea who he had feelings for. Mike looked down get ready for her to hate you Mike he thought.
Mike looked up, "it's Will..." Mike said quietly but bravely.
"What?" Nancy asked shocked. "You like Will..a boy..."

Mike nodded looking down "I think I'm Bisexual...so I like both, boys and girls..."

Nancy smiled, when Mike saw her smiling, he frowned. "Y-You're not mad at me? Or hate me?" Mike asked stuttering.
Nancy pulled Mike into a hug and hugged him tightly. "Never Mike, I'm so proud of you..." Mike was shocked by the sudden hug but he hugged her back and sighed with relief. "Thank you Nancy...I love you so much..."
Nancy pulled away and smiled "I love you too Mike, that will never change alright?"

Mike nodded when he heard Karen Wheeler, his mother calling him from upstairs that he had a phone call. "Micheal! It's El! She wants to talk to you!" Karen yelled.
Mike sighed sadly and looked at Nancy.

Mike got up and went to the telephone that was in his basement and he answered it.
"Hey El..." Mike said awkwardly
"Hi Mike!" El said excitedly through the phone
Mike hated himself, he didn't want to break up with her...she liked him a lot..
"Me, Jonathan, Will and Mrs Byers are leaving now! Just thought I'd call you, before we go! I'm really excited to see you Mike!"
Mike sighed "im really excited to see you too El..."
"Wait Will wants to talk to you before we go." El said.
"Will?"
"Yeah! I'll just give him the phone. I'll see you soon Mike, I love you." El said smiling.
Mike looked down "Y-Yeah I love you too El..."
He heard her laugh and could tell she was smiling.

Nancy was looking at him "You have to tell her Mike..."
"I know-" Mike said but got interrupted.

"You know what?" Mike heard Will's voice in the phone.
"Will!" Mike yelled "I-I uh nothing, just Nancy was talking to me about something..."
"Right..." Will said quietly but was smiling when he heard Mike's voice.
"So-" Mike began
"So-" Will said at the same time.
They both burst into laughter. "Sorry" Mike said still laughing a bit, "you go first."
Will was smiling, Mike could tell, just by the way he was talking. He loved everything about Will. He loved his smile, their height difference, his eyes, his cute bowl cut, his-
"So Mike what do you think? Is it ok?"

Mike was to busy thinking about Will, he forgot that Will was talking...
"Shit sorry Will, I didn't hear what you said, uh I was thinking about something.."
"El I presume?" Will said bitterly
"No! No! I-I was thinking about how excited I am to see you again..."
"Oh..." Will said smiling a little as a blush grew on his cheeks.
It was silent.
Mike broke it. "Uh..so what did you say?"
"I-I was just saying how me and El's friend are coming over as well, his name is Eddie and I wanted him to meet you and the party..is that ok?"

Mike felt a sudden jealousy wash into him. Calm down Mike... He thought.

"Y-Yeah it's fine! I can't wait to meet him" Mike said putting a smile on his face.
Mike heard Will sigh happily. "I'm so excited to see you Mike"
"Me too Will..." Mike said smiling.

update: charlotte 2023 here, wanted to say that I've deleted the bit about Mike being willsexual because it makes me cringe so much and I noticed people are cringing too so I had to delete it. just remember, I was 12-13 when I wrote this so it's gonna be so cringe, I really want to rewrite this book now.
