"I don't think it's a good idea," argued Zarik.

"She has a point though. She took on the rogues pretty decently and with Ember and Avery training her, I think she could do it. Besides we alongside others would be there as well in case anything happens," I argued back.

"You're too weak Grimsley. Too easily giving into pressure." I cut out Zarik and continue making my way towards Alpha's office, thinking about what to say to him. It isn't the first time Zarik said that to me and I know it wouldn't be the last time. I and Zarik never truly see eye-eye but we both know we need each other to survive. No matter how much we hate it.

"We'll head out in a week to investigate the disappearance of the Cave pack. We'll take a plane along with jets to scope the area to see any evidence of a vampire attack and if we don't see any then we'll move into the territory. All packs within the area have been notified and are on the lookout for suspicious activity along with sending patrols near the border to see if they can find any signs of life," said Alpha. "Valentine will stay behind alongside Beta and his son Blaine. This'll be a good teaching lesson for the two of them."

"Yes, alpha," I said, dreading the moment we have to talk about Accalia.

"Now about your mate." I knew he would say that eventually, I was just hoping he wait for a bit longer before mentioning her. "I've heard word she wants to join in the investigation. Is that true?"

I took a deep breath, trying to decide what to say. "Yes. Part of me believes she may just be able to take care of herself during the investigation but I am still unsure about it."

"Will she did manage to help you take on a pack of rogues. I say that's enough to qualify her as someone to join. I'm sure she can handle a vampire on her own if she needs to," said Alpha.

"I'd like to not find out and keep her safe. If she does come I'm keeping her right beside me and not letting her leave my sight even for a second. You know how dangerous vampires can be, especially if they took down an entire pack that they used to keep peace with," I said, realizing that I'm taking Zarik's side more now. "I just don't want to lose her again."

"Will she has a week to prove herself. Assess her yourself if you have to to see that she is fit to take on vampires herself. We do have a stimulator she can practice on and she can even combat with you. I'm sure you of all wolves should know how they fight and act," said Alpha with a glint in his eyes and a dark tone.

I hide a shiver that goes down my spine, remembering how when I was younger I had befriended the king of vampires son, Pierce. Pierce and I were in similar age and had begun talking while Alpha was meeting with Pierce's father. We had quickly learned that we had a lot in common and were talking about the differences in our lifestyles and how werewolves and vampires operate.

We had wondered away from the meeting room to play and I was showing him all around the packhouse, showing him where the chefs prepare the food and where we store the freshly killed prey. Pierce showed me how he uses his fangs to drain the food from animals and I even tried it myself to find out I don't like the taste of blood. We began playing out in the woods, Pierce showing me how quick vampires are and how to climb trees much quicker while balancing yourself on shaky limbs.

We were having so much fun when suddenly a group of vampires ambushed me. I attempted to fight back but there were too many and I never fought a vampire before. I had lost sight of Pierce during the ambush and was eventually pinned down by them, having them insult me and beat me up to the point I couldn't see anything. I would have been a dead man if it weren't for a patrol group coming back. Alpha eventually came out alongside Pierce's father and accused him of bringing them with him to which Pierce's father denied.
