a/n: you don't have to listen to the song, but it will be played later on so if you want to listen it so you can imagine it better you can, happy reading!
the cool breeze ruffled my hair and sent chills down my arms. i shivered a little at the new found coldness that was spreading throughout my body. Robert noticed this and wrapped his arm tighter around me. my head rested on his chest, i felt so at peace listening to his heart beat, ten year old me would be freaking out right now. we sat in silence on the roof of his house, looking up at the stars, with blankets and pillows surrounding us. we had no idea what time it was, but we didn't care.
i wondered if Robert was still awake, being very gentle i lifted my head up to look at his face. he was, looking up at the stars.
"Robert?" i whispered.
"yeah?"
"remember when i first came to the zoo, with Millie and Sabrina?"
"of course."
"well i was wondering something." i nervously fiddled with my fingers.
"go on."
"Wes was saying you had something planned, like a date or something." i blushed a little.
"oh, that." he chuckled, "well i, um, i was gonna take you to this spot in our private gardens. there's a little trail lined with lanterns that leads to a field of flowers." he moved a strand of hair out of my face.
i felt my cheeks heat up, he was so sweet.
"aw, Rob." i kissed his cheek. "for the record, i would have loved that." i winked.
he laughed, and kissed my forehead, "well at least i know now it was a good idea."
i pulled a blanket over us both and rested my head on his chest. i tried to go to sleep, but i couldn't. i was too happy, this was perfect, the past week with Robert had been perfect. although soon i fell into a dreamless sleep.
my eyes slowly started to open to the sound of guitar strings softly being strummed. Robert was setting up against the wall behind us, playing his guitar. my eyes made their way to the rising sunset, shades of pink and orange started to glow through the tree line.
"morning." Robert said in his groggy morning voice.
"mm." i murmured.
i snuggled up to Robert, resting my head on his shoulder. he started to softly sing "simply the best" by Tina Turner, but in a slower, more clam way. he had such a good singing voice, i wasn't really surprised though. if i had learned anything over the past week, it was that Robert could literally do anything he set his mind to.
we watched the sunrise together, Robert played the guitar a little more, then tried to teach me, i was terrible at it of course.
"i would rather play the piano." i shrugged.
"yeah? do you play a lot?" he asked while drawing little circles on my hand.
"a little, i taught myself so i'm not the best, but i do enjoy it."
"have you written anything?" i tried to conceal my smile when he asked me that.
"uh- some things, not really. mostly just me messing around." i was a professional actor, but i couldn't hide anything to save my life.
the truth was i had been writing songs about Robert, i wasn't planning on telling him until way later in the relationship. it's not like they were good or anything, i just practiced on the off chance the Irwin's weren't home and i was.
