I was petting Arnold, admiring the sleeping kitten on my lap, when Owen stood up. Arnold woke up, stretched and headed for my room, no doubt wanting to sleep in peace. "Come now, we're leaving." Owen grabbed my arm and pulled making me groan and stand up, "let me get changed at least." Erynn followed me towards our bedrooms. I grabbed Devin's old dress shirt I had stolen from him before leaving and slipped it on over a tank top and gym shorts. I wanted to be comfortable enough to fall asleep as soon as I got home. When I exited my room, Erynn was standing in the hallway in an oversized sweater and shorts. I didn't miss Charlie's eyes raking over her body as she spoke to Owen.
We grabbed our keys and slipped shoes on, I yawned, wishing I had a cup of coffee. Owen threw his arm around my shoulders. "I can show you the world, kid." He smirked, waving his hand in the air for dramatic effect. I rolled my eyes and grabbed his arm, removing it from around me. "I'm older than you, Joyner." I deadpanned and walked to the elevator.
Once we got onto the bottom floor, the boys led us out toward the fjord. I furrowed my brows at Erynn, "you know we have a wonderful view of this on our balcony." I cocked an eyebrow at the boys.
"C'mon Em, it'll be fun, have you ever walked the shores while the sun is setting?" Charlie grinned, grabbing my arm and pulling me forward. I dropped my head to my feet, "can't say I have Charles." His smile faltered as he registered my dropped shoulders.
"Well, you're about to!" He throws me over his shoulder and books it for the shore. "Charles Gillespie put me down now," I demanded, bouncing on his shoulder as he ran ahead of Erynn and Owen. He ignored me as I watched my best friend get smaller and smaller the further we got. I found myself placed on my feet right before the tide. I punched Charlie in the shoulder and he laughed loudly. "You fucker! That hurt my stomach!" I choked out through laughs.
Owen and Erynn eventually caught up, coming over to stand next to us while we watched the sunset. I wrapped my arm around Erynn as the sun hit the horizon. Suddenly Owen bumped shoulders with me. He cocked his head to the side, asking me to follow him.
We walked in silence for a bit before he finally said something. "Hey, um, so tell me something about yourself." He shoved his hands in his jacket pocket, kicking up sand. I didn't want to comment on the fact that the sand landed in my shoes.
"Anything?"
"Yes, anything," he chuckled and looked down.
"I hate mushrooms." I laughed, "seriously?" He chuckled.
"I really don't like them, never have." He shook his head, laughing lightly. I cocked an eyebrow at him, smiling big. "What?" I said, stopping in my tracks.
"Nothing it's just, y'know you're really goofy." He scratched the back of his neck and looked up at me. "Really?" I looked down, smiling.
"Yeah, I like it. I mean- it's a good thing," he smiled sheepishly. I laughed louder, shaking my head at him.
"Hey Emilee, come over here I wanna take a photo!" Erynn shouted over to us. "We should probably go back," I tucked a piece of hair behind my head and furrowed my brows at him. He nodded and we walked back to the tide.
Erynn took my hand, placing me next to her as Charlie held her phone up. I reached toward Owen, passing him my phone so he could take a photo as well. Once they were satisfied with the photos they took, we got our phones back and looked through them.
"Charlie, don't move, Owen, go stand with him!" Erynn called, Owen ditched his jacket and handed it to me. It was dark, but the light from Erynn's phone hit the two boys perfectly. The photo Erynn took looked great, and the boys thanked her for the picture.
Erynn
We all walked back through the city to mine and Emilee's apartment, stopping to get street dogs on the way. Owen made a joke to Charlie about 'hoping these ones don't kill us' but Emilee and I didn't really get the remark.
We had all sobered up considerably by the time we reached our front door. The wine I had that night had left me feeling drowsy so I used Charlie as support while we walked. My arm was wrapped around his with my head rested against his shoulder. Emilee walked straight to her bedroom once entering the condo, yelling back a goodnight. Charlie chuckled at her and walked towards the living room to help me sit down. With my eyes still closed, I tried to convince one of them to take my bed for the night while I slept out in the living room. Charlie protested, however, Owen took this chance to quietly sneak into my room to claim the bed for the night.
I halted my protests once I opened my eyes, realizing it was just Charlie and I remaining in the living room. I looked up at him to see he was already looking down at me with a smile. I smiled back at him, nuzzling my face against his shoulder once more. My arm gripped his as I cuddled up against it, earning a light chuckle from him. I felt him shift, removing himself from the couch and me in the meantime. I felt my stomach drop at the thought that maybe he didn't feel comfortable around me. I peaked my head above the couch, watching him walk over to the front door. Just when I thought he was going to leave, he reached up and shut off the lights to the apartment.
I sunk back down to lie further into the couch cushions when he turned back towards the couch. I shut my eyes tightly, acting as if I hadn't been watching him the entire time. I felt the couch dip near my head and felt his strong arm reach out and grab my frame. I didn't put up a fight as I felt him pull my body up to lie against his. He grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch and draped it over the two of us, now situating myself between his legs.
His arms wrapped around my body, hugging me to his chest. At that moment, our heartbeats synced, becoming one.
As I drifted into a comfortable slumber, I felt his lips press against my hair, whispering, "Goodnight Erynn, dort bein cocotte."
I smiled lightly. Dort bein cocotte, Sleep well, honey.
