This is an angsty story because I'm in that type of mood..

Gray POV
I was on a mission with Natsu since he kept complaining about being bored in the guild all day. He hummed as we held hands and walked towards the person who requested us to come. He forced me to walk with him since he has really bad motion sickness and didn't wanna take a carriage. It was about the middle of the day when we arrived. The woman told them the details about the job and sent them on their way.
(Time skip to the job)
Nobody POV
Natsu and Gray were told about a few people supposedly seeing a dragon around these parts so they came to investigate. They were the only ones available since most of the guild members were also on jobs. They got to the town and asked around to see if anyone had also seen this "dragon" the woman complained about. They all gave them clues which led them to a forest where they heard noises. Natsu thought it sounded like a dragon so they got ready to fight although Gray could only really give backup if they ran into a dragon. They investigated and came to the conclusion that there couldn't be any dragons that deep in the forest since there wasn't enough space for one to land or even set foot on the ground without crushing trees. As they were about to go back, deciding that this was just a kids prank a man appeared before them. He attacked them both at the same time, too quickly for them to react in time. Both Gray and Natsu were sent flying back into the trees.
Natsu had hit a tree in the wrong way and it cut his side. Gray his his thigh on the tree, leaving a cut but not deep enough to make him lose his footing when regaining his balance and standing up. It took Natsu a bit longer because of the wound in his side but he got up and got into a fighting stance. Fire began covering his fists and the cold air from ice going over Gray's. They both ran to the man and they began fighting.
They won the fight but they both sustained pretty bad injuries. Gray was doing much better than Natsu since moth of his attacks are long range he wasn't close up. Natsu ended up taking the last his for Gray before he defeated the wizard. Natsu had gotten stabbed in the stomach with one of the sharp branches the wizard used during the fight.
Natsu POV
I fell to the ground feeling really dizzy. I was having trouble breathing too. I tried getting up but winced in pain as I held my stomach. "What..?" I looked down and saw a decent sized branch in my stomach, piercing the skin. There was a lot of blood. I was about to pass out when I heard someone call me. "Natsu!" I looked over and saw Gray running over and holding me up a bit.
Nobody POV
Gray rushed over after realizing Natsu had been hit harder than he thought. "Natsu! Natsu stay with me okay?! You're gonna be okay!" Gray picked him up as he started running back to the town to find a doctor. They reached a small hospital that was in the town and they immediately took Natsu to a room so he could be treated for his wounds. "Is he okay?! Let me in too! Wait!" The doctors were holding Gray back as he was trying to push past to get into the room with Natsu. "Sir we need you to calm down! You cannot be in the room while he is being treated for his wounds and you have wounds of your own!" One of the doctors yelled as they pulled him into another room. "Let me go! Don't worry about me I wanna know if Natsu's okay!" "We don't know yet..let us treat you and when the doctor comes out we'll tell you everything they find out" Gray agreed and let the doctors treat his wounds. He was hurt but all he could think about was Natsu.
Natsu was in the other room being treated by a doctor. The doctor worked for about 2 hours before finishing and coming out of the room. Gray was already out in the waiting room, waiting for the doctor. "Gray Fullbuster..?" Gray jumped up hearing his name. "Yes?? I'm right here! Is Natsu okay?" He asked while walking to the doctor. The doctor didn't answer at first and looked down. "What..? What's wrong?! Where's Natsu?" Gray asked, fear starting to build up inside him. The doctor grabbed his shoulder and looked at him. "Listen, he's alive but just barely. There's a small chance he's gonna pull through but it's not very likely..we did everything we could, I'm sorry, Mr Fullbuster.." The doctor then walked away to help other patients. Gray was speechless and just ran back to Natsu's room and closed the door behind him.
Natsu was bandaged up and had stitches. He was asleep due to the medicine they used on him. Gray walked over and sat in the chair next to the bed. He leaned over and grabbed Natsu's hand, holding it close to his lips before kissing it lightly. "I'm so sorry Natsu..." he glanced up at his sleeping lover. "You gotta pull through for me..please. I-I can't lose you too. It doesn't have to be today..or tomorrow..or next month. Just please come back, okay? Natsu.. please be okay..." and with that Gray closed his eyes, trying not to cry. He didn't like crying, it made him feel weak but not this time. He couldn't hold back his tears and they fell. One by one the tears fell.
Gray felt guilty for this, part of him thought it was his fault because Natsu protected him.
It's been almost 2 years since that incident. Gray was in the guild hall talking to Erza who was eating cake. "Gray are you okay..? You've barely left the guild, why don't you go home?" Erza asked, putting her cake down. "I can't go home..." Gray said quietly as he laid his head in his arms. "Why not?" She asked him, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Because everything reminds me of him! The way things are never fully clean, the smell, the pictures, the kitchen, even waking up in the bed! I can't stand it..." Gray started tearing up. "It's been almost 2 years..I miss him so much I don't know what to do with myself Erza..it's just not the same.." Erza looked at Gray who was now crying for the third time that morning. "Gray.." she hugged him tightly and gently brushed his hair. "I know you miss him..we all do. Why don't you talk to him..? He always listened and I'm sure he's still listening even though you can't hear him.." Gray pulled away from the hug and nodded. He got up and left the guild.
Gray went over to the graveyard and crouched down in front of Natsu's grave. "Hey..Natsu.." he cleared his throat. "I miss you..so much and um..Erza thought I should talk to you so..." he made an ice flower and put it by his grave. "I know you liked my flowers I made for you. You always..used to use them as ice..it was adorable.." he laughed a little then frowned again. "How are you..? I hope you aren't lonely, wherever you are. I wish I could be with you right now..I could use one of your bear hugs that were always too tight.." he started crying again.
Natsu POV
I was there, it was shocking when I found out I died that day. I watched Gray cry and it almost made me cry too. "I'm here Gray...I'm right here so please don't cry. I'm not lonely at all because I have you..I will always have you, and you will have me. Don't cry Gray..."
Flashback(that day)
Nobody POV
Natsu had woken up and held Grays hand. "Gray I don't think I'm-" Gray shook his head and looked at Natsu. "Don't say it.." he mumbled. Natsu looked at his lover with a soft smile. "Hey..Gray?" Gray looked up at him. "Hm?" He answered. Natsu smiled brightly and said, "I love you forever, okay?" Gray smiled back. "I love you too, forever.." his voice was soft due to him crying earlier but Natsu heard him. Natsu eyes started to close and his grip on Gray's hand loosening. "I..love you..Gray.." he mumbled as his eyes closed all the way, his hand completely releasing Gray's. Gray's eyes widened as he looked at Natsu. "Natsu..? Natsu!" Gray started to tear up as the doctors came into the room hearing him yell. They pulled him to the side and tried to save Natsu but there was nothing they could do..he was gone. "No! No! Natsu!" Gray cried and yelled as he ran back over to Natsu, hugging him tightly.
End of Flashback
Gray put a hand on Natsu's gravestone and sighed as he wiped his tears. "I love you forever, remember Natsu?"
Natsu POV
He cried and put a hand on Gray's although Gray couldn't feel it. "I remember..and I meant it. I love you forever Gray"
Nobody POV
Gray smiled a little and just looked down. "I didn't get to tell you the last time you said it but..I love you too Natsu, always and forever.."
