I dig around in the pockets of my jacket looking for my keys. My lips felt like they were frozen and I felt like the warmth of the building was mocking me. The keys weren't in my jacket. I sigh as I pull my jacket tighter around my body as I run back to my car. I look into the car to see my keys still hanging in the ignition. I mumble a couple of curse words as I pull on the door handled, it was locked. I kicked the car lightly in frustration before walking up the steps to Happy Melodies, the music shop I worked at and practically my second home. I didn't notice until I almost ran into them, but there was a boy waiting there with a guitar case. For a second I thought about turning around and ignoring the most likely customer. But I just awkwardly took a step away from him and hoped he would just ignore me. I looked at him through my hair noticing all the little things about him. Until I felt his eyes on me and realized he knew I was looking at him. I instantly looked away and brushed the hair out of my face. He chuckled a bit before introducing himself, "I'm Calum." He then puts his hand out for me to shake.
"I'm Brynn." I say continuing the whole awkward vibe, and lightly shake his hand. I then awkwardly shove my hand into the pocket of my jacket as I blow my hair out of my face. Then it was kinda just silent besides the rustling of the trees.
"They usually open by now," Calum mumbles as he pulls out his phone checking the time I assume, "Anyway, what are you here for?" That's when I remembered why I was here in the first place.
"Oh, right! I...uh work here, but left the keys to the door in my car..." I whispered kind of ashamed at my stupidity. He laughs as he walks toward the parking lot, "Where are you going?" I ask as I run down the steps following him.
"Which one?" He asks as he motions towards the four cars in the parking lot. I point at the 2007 Honda Civic that my mom had given me for my 16 birthday. He walks towards the car looking in the window, "You left them in the ignition?" He laughs as he sets his guitar case down. I just nodded and bit my bottom lip, again ashamed.
"Do you happen to have a coat hanger?" He asks like it was the most normal thing in the world. I raise an eye brow at him scoffing, "Do I look like I have a coat hanger?" He rolled his eyes at me as he picked up his guitar case, "Is there someone you can call or something? I really need to be at a show in about an hour" A show...
"Yea, give me a second." I walked away a bit as I pull my phone out of my pocket. I scrolled through my contact list stopping at the name, Hazel. And press the little call button, "Hello?" She groaned instantly answering after the first beep.
"Hey...I kinda locked my self out of the shop. Can you come bring me the spare key?" I asked with a smile as if she could see me. I heard her just breath for a second, "Sure. I'll be over in 30." She mumbled.
"30? Did I forget to mention I was stuck here with some boy who has to be at a show in an hour?" I yelled into the phone. I knew Hazel was a sleep all day, stay up all night person. But I was hoping she would pull through this one time and just get off her lazy ass to bring me the key.
"Talk to him. Make a friend. Bye." She explained as she quickly hung up. 30 minutes usually meant an hour in Hazel's book. She was most likely sleeping again by now. I sighed as I ran a hand through my hair walking back towards Calum.
"She'll be over with the key in about thirty minutes." I lie. He just nods shoving his free hand in his jean pocket, "So, what do you want to do till then?" He asks with as he makes eye contact with me. This random boy just wanted to hang out with a total stranger, okay..same.
"Uh...there's a coffee shop just a couple buildings down." I point out towards the end of the street. He sends me a soft smile before walking ahead, "Let's go then."
