Chapter Nine: Cutting Deep

What the hell?

I don't know what I... It was...

Shit.

Do they actually exist?

Those things... those... monsters. Are they actually real?

I mean, I have my own opinions on it and I do my own research, but... Seeing that... thing... in the forest... It makes you rethink everything.

After getting back up to the cliff's edge, I was too freaked out to go back into the water at all. Elena stayed closed to me and tried to comfort me, but I couldn't focus. I was still thinking about what I saw. Once everyone was done jumping into the falls, we headed back to the resort.

It's been two days since the waterfall trip and I can't get the image of that... creature out of my goddamn head! Every time I close my eyes, all I see are those bright yellow eyes staring back me! I hear the sounds of it's growling a-and the... the... shit...

I can't do this...

I got up from my bed and sat on the edge. It was pretty late at night, most of the resort was asleep by now, except for me. Reaching over to my lamp, I turned it on and looked around the suite. I looked over at Logan's bed and saw that it was empty. 

Huh, guess Logan headed out. 

Where did he go? 

I hope he's okay. 

Hell, he probably is okay. He might be having a smoke session somewhere outside.

Outside. Where that thing is... the creature. What if he went to far? What if he went into the forest to light one up and got caught?! What if he saw that thing and ran?! And then he gets hurt and... and...

My heart started to beat out of my chest and I started to breath heavily! My palms started to shake as I clenched my them tightly! 

Relax, Joey! RELAX!

Fuck, I can't do this! 

I quickly walked over to the bathroom and turned on the sink. The cold water ran into the sink and I put my hands under the faucet, getting some water in my hands. I put the water on my face and took a deep breath. 

Okay, okay. There has to be reason. Everything has a reason to happen. I gotta dig deep. I put some more water on my face and dried it off. 

Walking out of the bathroom, I went to my nightstand and grabbed my phone. 

If there's one thing I know for sure, is that there has to information about these things. People have been posting about it for a long time, but there has to more behind this. 

The first thing I searched for was the history of the Royal Diamond Resort. There was a lot of info on this place. It was built in 2000 by Adler Inc., after the island was bought by the CEO, Ruby Adler in 1996. So, this place is at least a few decades old.

Still, it doesn't explain how that monster is on the island? 

Diving deep, I found even more information. I found an article about the history of the island. It turns out, somewhere on this island, is an abandoned Cold War bunker that was used by the US to store supplies for their allies in the war. Of course the bunker was well hidden, but it was undetected from Soviet invaders. 

Good to know, but it's not what I'm looking for. 

I went back to looking for more information about those college students that died up north. Sadly, I couldn't find that much. All I could find was info about a fire inside an abandoned mine shaft with dozens of unidentified bodies inside. Police said the fire could possibly be related to the Cranberry Lodge fire, but so far there aren't any comparisons.
