Isabel fell to her knees and started to cry. James knew that the best thing to do would be to go to her to see if she was okay, but he was finding it hard to stand. He needed blood to heal wounds as serious as this. His bones felt like they were in splinters.

He rolled onto his back and did his best to breathe past the pain. Now that the adrenaline was wearing off he was starting to feel every point of agony in his body. Damn that wolf had hit him hard.

The leaves next to his head crunching were his first hint that someone was near him. For a wild moment he thought it might be the older wolf again and he threw himself to the side to evade them.

"Its me," Skylar said, putting her hand on his shoulder.

He winced and did his best to nod in Isabel's direction. "Check on her. make Sure she doesn't run."

Skylar gave him a hard look. "I am hired to keep you alive not do your bidding." She scanned him head to toe. "We need to get you standing."

James shook his head, noticing that the side of his face felt like it had been beaten with a bat. "Get her. I need her."

Skylar stared into his eyes. His vision was a little off because of the pain but he was sure she was frowning.

Isabel was weeping loud enough to be heard over their conversation. Skylar stood and went to Isabel.

James did his best to keep an eye on them, but every moment hurt. In fact, he was sure that the more he moved the worse it was. Perhaps he had an internal injury of some kind. If he hadn't needed her so badly he would have asked Isabel to offer up a vein.

Soon Skylar was by his side again.

"Okay. She is going home. I told her you would call when you are healed."

James grit his teeth as she put her hand on his back and dragged him upright.

"No. If she goes home and is alone that gives her time to think she is crazy," he said.

"It also gives you time to recover. You took a hell of a hit." She let him take a breath while sitting down before looping an arm under him and hauling him to his feet. A blinding pain shot through his side and into his shoulder. He bit back the scream that climbed up his throat.

Skylar supported him and started to walk back towards the carpark.

"I need...blood," James gasped.

"I know but we can't go anywhere without your girlfriend."

Oh yes, he had forgotten he was tied to Ella. The pain must be going to his head.

Skylar took his weight without complaint and moved almost a little too quickly for his comfort. Although he doubted he would be anymore comfortable on the ground either.

They got to the carpark after what felt like an age. Ella was sitting in the car and through the window James could see her drumming her fingers on the dashboard along to a song. She turned her head just as Skylar reached the back door of the car. Leaning James against the car Skylar yanked open the door.

"Jesus! James!" Ella started to get out when Skylar spoke.

"We need to get him back home now. He needs blood, ideally human blood."

"If Ella wants to...donate then...I won't say no." James chuckled at the idea. No self-respecting wolf would open a vein for a vampire.

Ella fastened her seatbelt while Skylar piled James into the back seat. He couldn't help the cry that escaped him when his side hit the seat. The pain was so bad that his vison went momentarily dark and he thought he might pass out.
