Thicker Than Blood

First Change

 "CATO!" The sudden yell in my ear made me jump, a startled yelp escaping my mouth as my head snapped up. My eyes landing on the pale green eyes of an unfamiliar person. "Sorry... you weren't answering." She had a soft voice.

 Her skin was pale and covered with faint freckles, massive glasses sat on the bridge of her nose and thick untamed orange hair framed her face and shoulders. Licking my lips nervously I sat up against Sasha's large body, meeting her curious eyes briefly before turning back up to the stranger. Sasha's narrow tail tucked itself around my feet as I pulled my legs into my chest and cleared my throat.

 The girl smiled shyly at me "Y-you are Cato Sivilian, right?" I nod quickly pushing a book mark into the pages of the book I had been absorbed in only moments before.

 The girl forced a nervous laugh out and she shifted the thick, gold covered book in her arms around before holding her hand out to me. Reaching up slowly I shook her hand, "Um. Hi, I'm Jade. I just wanted to tell you that school is ending. Like, right now." I blinked in shock and jumped again when the loud ring of the bell sounded above our heads.

 With Sasha's help I stood up and pet her head as she stood next to me, "Thanks. I wouldn't have noticed the bell." I admitted quietly, Jade smiled at me flashing two small but extremely sharp looking fangs.

 "I know. I do the same thing, that's why I bothered you." She paused and bit her lip carefully glancing at the carpeted floor under us, "I was... Also wondering if... If maybe you would help me a little?" My nose twitched and I sniffed lightly glancing out the large window to my right. It gave me full view of the court yard and all the many groups of students, some rushing out of the front gate, some mingling, and others filtering out to the dorm houses.

 "Well that depends on what it is and how long it will take..." Turning my eyes back on the girl I watched her shifted the book in her arms again.

 "Okay, sorry. Um see I'm suppose to live here on campus, but there was a problem when I checked in and the dorm houses are full. I was told that it would be a week's wait before they could fix a spot for me, and the thing is I have no where to stay for that long and since you're parents are kind of... super powerful... I was hoping maybe, you could get me an audience with Mrs. Roxe directly? Please?" She looked up at me with wide eyes, pushing her glasses up as her face turned red.

 "I'm sorry, I sound so rude. I just, needed help." My eyebrows went up and I glanced out the window again biting my lip when my eyes picked up the large black and white wing span of my mother's as he landed by the front gate. Two big black wolves trotting around the stone wall to sit with him and wait. My dads as well.

 Knowing it would be incredibly rude to just walk away from Jade I glanced back at her, "Uh y-yeah I could... Talk to my parents but I don't know what they will say. My dads can be, bit on the cautious side." Gesturing for the shorter girl to follow me I lead her out of the library and walked stiffly, Sasha's body swaying next to me. Her talons clicking on the ground as we slowly made our way down some stairs and long hall ways.

 The awkward was so thick I could cut it with a knife if I wanted to. The end of my first day and I was already having awkward moments with strangers, I wounder how Jay and Serena were handling  their days.

 "I like your griffin." Turning my gaze toward my partner then back to Jade I cleared my throat again and offered a small smile, "Thanks. Her name is Sasha." Jade smiled brightly up at me, "I heard the Stable Keeper pissed your sister off for calling him goat boy, is that true?"

 Blinking I leaned away from Jade a bit, "How do you know that?" She giggled into her hand and nudged my shoulder.

 "I take it you don't know a lot about schools?" I just stared at her as we turned down another short hall filled with lockers, the end was marked by two overly massive doors. The exit.
