(Jay)
Breathe. The word was held in my mind gently as I inhaled deeply, and exhaled strongly. Concentrating my mind on the air that entered my body the darkness I usually saw slowly dissipated, even with my eyes closed. Inhale. I could see the wind as it filled my lungs and did its job of seeping into my blood. Exhale. My eyes shifted to follow the air as it flared and mixed with the surrounding space around me.
I sat straight, my body relaxed and rigid at the same time, my wings extended out around me. The wind I manipulated ruffling the feather of my wings pleasantly. Inhaling again a small smile touched my lips as I felt my ability within me.
It was like a muscle that I could flex and move, and just like any other muscle in order to strengthen it I needed to work it. Doing as my teachers, and mother had taught me I gradually used it to create a spiraling smooth pattern that circled me. Pushing the size out slightly and using it to lift my body off the ground. The vortex of wind whipping my hair in all directions along with my clothes, the feeling was lost under the caress of the wind on my skin.
Forcing the spiraling air faster as I got comfortable before instantly changing the direction and spinning it in the opposite patterns. That is, until the smooth unbroken wind I could see was displaced around my sister's body as she jumped at me. I couldn't hear her, or smell her, she was a perfect hunter but I easily avoided her surprise attack. I always could.
The energy in her body was powerful and it moved the air on the surface of her aura, it moved in the direction she was going to go before she moved. All I had to do was watch which way her energy was moving to know where she was going to attack from and what she was going to do next.
My wings flexed and I lifted myself higher so she sailed under my body, the fur covering her newly changed self was ruffled in my wind. She growled and changed back as moments later our brother entered my wind rang as well. Frowning at both of their presences I relaxed the wind to a soft breeze and lowered my body until my feet touched grass.
The noise of the school campus came back to me, the feeling of chaotic winds following every body over the yard once more made itself known to me. Opening my eyes I felt myself blink as I located Chester's unique pattern mingling in a group of humans he often acquainted himself with not far off to my right. He was always close to me, even during the lunch period while I did my meditation.
"Jay, Serena and I need to talk with you." My older brother's serious tone pulled my attention of my aid. Worry touched my mind at his tight tone, pushing my wind around him I felt the tension in his body, and the body of his companion standing close.
My jacket wiggled as the small body of my own partner made herself comfortable in the thick over-sized fabric of the hood sitting on my shoulder. The jacket was actually mom's, his scent made it easier to handle being alone at school. Made me feel safe.
Reaching up I scratched at her tiny head affectionately, Nell. "What's wrong?" Cato's wings puffed up in the wind and curled around his body, "Its the whispers. They're telling me something that involves you and mom." Serena let out a little laugh, "Cato you sound insane when you say you hear whispers." Her statement went ignored. Nell curled up against my neck making tiny chewing noises with her teeth, "God how can you stand that thing? Its so small." My eyes flicked toward the sound of Serena's sharp, condescending voice. Her changing yesterday served to only boost her ego.
"The same way you deal with Ace." Turning back to Cato he opened his mouth to speak but Ren but in once more.
"I don't 'deal' with Ace. He's fucking awesome and we both know it. We make the perfect pair, couple of amazing badass fighters!" I rolled my eyes at her as I felt her fists slicing through the air as she punched at an invisible opponent. A snort left my nose, "Says the one who got her butt handed to her in class this morning by the teacher."
