I wake up to loud screaming, and many voices around me. I opened my eyes wide, seeing that I was in a room full of teenagers, all strapped to seats. I look down at myself, seeing that I too was strapped into a seat.

'What's going on?' I think to myself.

The room shook, causing more panicked screams around me, before a tv monitor turned over, the chancellor showing up on screen.

"Prisoners of the Ark, hear me now. You've been given a second chance, and as your Chancellor, it is my hope that you see this as not just a chance for you, but a chance for all of us, indeed for mankind itself. We have no idea what is waiting for you down there. If the odds of survival were better, we would've sent others. Frankly, we're sending you because your crimes have made you expendable." The Chancellor states.

In that moment, it hit me, almost as hard as the gun the guard hit me with. We were on a ship, being sent to earth. We were being sent on the 50/50 chance that we may or may not survive.

"Your dad's a dick, Wells." One of the prisoners yelled.

'Why is the Chancellor's son here?'  I think, surely the Chancellor wouldn't risk son's death just to see if earth was survivable.

"And if, however, you do survive, those crimes will be forgiven, your records wiped clean. The drop site has been chosen carefully. Before the last war, Mount Weather was a military base built within a mountain, it was to be stocked with enough nonperishables to sustain 300 people for up to two years." The Chancellor continued.

I got distracted, seeing a boy flying past me.

"Spacewalk bandit strikes again." Someone yelled out.

I rolled my eyes, recognizing the boy to be the kid who got locked up for taking an unauthorized spacewalk around the Ark. He was arrested just a few weeks before I was, so most of the Ark knew about him.

"Stay put if you want to live!" I heard a female voice yell.

I look around, seeing two more boys cut off their seatbelts and float out of their seats.

Suddenly, the whole ship shook, and I saw the three boys all fly into walls. Everyone began to scream. Sparks began to shoot down from the ceiling above me, making me cover my head to protect me from the sparks.

I scream out, as more sparks flew from the ceiling. Everyone was panicking as the whole dropship shook. I held on tightly to my seatbelt, my eyes clenched shut, as I waited for it all to stop.

About thirty seconds later, the ship shook once more before stopping entirely. It was quiet all around, as we waited for any sound to be made. But not even the sound of the engine could be heard, which was something new to me. Having been raised on the Ark, I had grown accustomed to the many sounds that the machinery around us made. I wasn't used to the silence that I now heard from within the ship.

"Listen, no machine hum." A boy says from the row behind me.

"Whoa, that's a first." Another boy says.

I finally open my eyes, looking at all the faces around me. They all seemed to be as shocked as I was, to not hear the hum of electricity.

A ring of loud clicking sounds emit through the air. All of our seatbelts coming undone. I throw the seatbelt aside, standing up from my seat.

"The outer door is on the lower level. Let's go." I hear someone say.

Two boys walk ahead of me, heading towards the ladder. I follow behind them, as I hear someone yelling.

"Stop!" A girl yells, climbing down the ladder after me.

Once off the ladder, she pushed through everyone to the front of the crowd. I could no longer see her, as I was too short to see over the hoard of teenagers around me.

"The air could be toxic." I hear the same girl say.

"If the air is toxic, we're all dead, anyway." A male voice responds.

This was that 50/50 chance that the Ark was forcing us to take, to see if earth was survivable or not.

"Bellamy?" A new, female, voice asks.

I look up at one of the ladders, seeing a girl with long dark hair and olive skin climbing down. She pushed forward through the crowd, until I could no longer see her.

"That's the girl they hid under the floor." Somewhen whispers.

I gasp, hearing who this girl was. I knew who she was instantly. Octavia Blake, her existence itself was considered a crime on the Ark. With supplies being limited, families were allowed to only have one child, but Octavia's mother gave birth to her in secret, and hid here for many years. Sadly, her mother was floated into space when this was discovered, and Octavia was thrown into a cell.

As this information flashed through my mind, I'm unaware of the things going on around me. I'm brought back to reality when the door shoots off of the dropship, bright light shining in on us.

Suddenly, the air is much easier to breath. And just over the tops of people's heads, I could make out the tall trees that stood outside on the ship.

"We're back bitches!" yells Octavia.

Everyone begins to cheer, as they all run off of the ship.

I stand still for a moment, before slowly backing my way off of the ship. I walk over to the closest tree, gently laying my hand on it.

"This is a real tree?" I say to myself.
