Alice and Daphne didn't waste a second to step into the library once winter break had come to an end. After the Yule Ball, everyone returned home to spend the New Year with their families. Alice went to the Greengrass' home, who had gladly invited her to stay those few days. She had had a wonderful time during the short week she spent together with them, but there was something Alice had hidden from her friend. In the same way that Daphne hadn't told her about her summer correspondence with Cassius, she did not tell her what happened with Draco on Christmas Eve. It's not that she didn't trust her, in fact, she was the person she relied on the most, but she still didn't know if the relationship was going to last, or if that could even be called a relationship.

The girls were having a hard time concentrating on their studies, seeing that they were not motivated enough. To top it off, the following day the second trial of the Triwizard Tournament was being held, and no one – except for the students involved – had any idea what it was about.

"How are we supposed to study when all the Triwizard stuff is happening?" Alice complained as she dropped her quill on the dimly illuminated desk and pulled away from the parchment. She looked at one of the library's window only to find a pitch-black sky on the other side. It was getting pretty late, and they had spent all day in there at the request of Daphne, who had been left behind with Potions, and Alice obviously helped her. "I don't know about you, but I just want to see the next task. I won't be able to do anything else after that is done." The truth was that wasn't the only reason why she couldn't focus. Alice had hoped to see Draco today, since they hadn't seen or written to each other since that night.

"If it is hard for you, imagine the champions." Daphne responded without looking away from her textbook, making Alice sigh.

"Hey." A second later Alice felt someone sneaking from behind her. She sat straight in her chair and then turned to find Draco smiling down at her.

"Hi." She answered softly, although she was surprised due to the fact that he came to find her.

"Will you meet me in the astronomy tower after you're done with that?" He asked, nodding toward the scattered pieces of parchment in front of them.

"Isn't it a little late?" Alice asked back, and Draco arched an eyebrow. She wouldn't want to be caught wandering around the school after curfew, but she had wanted to have a moment alone with the boy, and she couldn't resist the complicit smirk he was giving her. "Okay, sure, we're almost finished, either way."

"Okay." He lightly tapped the wood desk with his knuckles, his ring resounding a bit louder. "I'll wait then." He leaned down and gave Alice a quick peck on the lips before leaving the two friends alone again. Alice pressed her lips into a thin line and looked straight at her book, avoiding the gaping look Daphne was sending her.
