Yao stepped forward, everyone's gaze on him.

He commanded attention through his aura alone, room steeped in silence.

Yao: The foretelling.

Yao: The life-changing meeting of human and vampire.

This was it.

I'd finally learn what my role in all of this was.

I anticipatorily leaned forward in my seat.

Yao: There's been a power struggle for the throne ever since the King turned ill.

Reader: Throne?

Our government isn't ruled by a king.

Ivan: King of the Otherworld.

Otherworld...

The name was foreign on my tongue.

Ludwig: The Otherworld overlaps with the human's. It's full of all 'other' creatures, including vampires.

Yao: Yes. Every Otherworldling must obey the king.

Reader: But he's fallen ill?

Yao: He's placed a spell, or special condition, that the next ruler must be the strongest.

Reader: Wouldn't his heir become the next King?

Kiku: There is no heir to speak of.

Yao: The King did provide a clue.

Yao: That being, the power resides inside a woman.

A woman?

Yao: Only the woman's soulmate can unlock the power, thus becoming the strongest.

Reader: And...and you think that's me?

No one met my gaze.

It was obvious they doubted I was.

Reader: If I'm not then why am I here?

Yao: We don't know that you aren't, _.

Yao: I have a strong hunch that you are.

Arthur: 'Hunch'...

He crossed his arms in disbelief.

I...

I can't blame them.

Even I don't believe I'm the Fated Gift.

How could I be?

Yao: Please have faith in me.

He placed a hand on my arm.

While it felt warm, it wasn't enough to quell the thoughts building in my mind.

What sort of power am I supposed to possess?

Don't they know I'm an average human?

Was his hunch well-founded?

Too many questions for me to handle.

Reader: What if I'm not the Fated Gift?

Yao: Such a silly question.

Reader: Huh?

Yao: Despite perhaps not being the Fated Gift, it does not change the fact we are soulmates.

I expected him to be mad or resentful.

After all, the throne is on the line.

He turned, stepping closer to me.

My eyes opened wide.

I could feel the blush spread across my cheeks and up to my ears.

He noticed, pink appearing on his face as well.

He coughed, clearing his throat.

Feliciano: Ooh~

I jumped, startled, momentarily forgetting the others were still there.

My blush deepened.

Yao grabbed my arm, wordlessly leading me out of the room.

In that moment his words reached my heart, lovely warmth spreading over my entire body.
