The cold breeze drifted on through the lonely street in southern Little Rock.
We were almost out of town
I'd heard word of a settlement near the Oklahoma boarder.
The trouble was my map was well worn and didn't read for shit as it did.
Next gas station I'm getting a map
Not with it being 3 years since everything went to hell.
"Babe." He asked quietly, "Are you sure you know the way?"
I just smiled as I put the map away, "Of course I do! I've gotten us this far haven't I?"
He gave me a skeptical look with the tilt of his head to the side.
"Okay. Okay. So Huntersville was a shit show." I held my gun firm but pointed it downward, "We we managed to get out of there in one piece."
"Next time, we hide in the attics of houses." He puffed before running his hands through his hair
Ander. Ander was a special type of guy. More brains than any idiot, and a IQ higher than most of the professors we met. His short blue hair was fading back to its natural blackish-blonde. I remember when it was dyed, and gods it looks good on him. He's probably going to have me re-dye it again. His clothes were messy and dirty. The outfit consisted of an old purple sweater, 'Dark Tree' Shirt, thorn blue jeans, and purple shoes.
I, on the other hand, was in the same lecture hall as him but had a completely different major. The son of an overseas CEO for the Hour Corp. Believe it or not we didn't sell clocks. Though being disowned, I said 'fuck that major' last semester, and switched to biology. The outfit I wore was more patched up than tattered. It consists of a blood stained red jacket, blue 'what the fox' shirt, green camo pants, black boots. Hell, my faded black hair was so long that it was in a low pony tail.
We managed pass the sign saying 'Now Leaving Little Rock'. I had to move him closer to the edge into the foliage, so if someone were to come across us, they'd only see me."Destin." He asked quietly as he walked on the roads edge, "Do you think they'll be okay with me? Even if they're still people."
I grabbed his hand and held it tightly, "Babe! You've been bitten by a zombie and survived it! Look at you!" I gestured to all of him, "Last spring and you recovered by the next day. If that doesn't say 'fuck the zombie virus!' I don't know what does."
He blushed with his cute little smile, "Gods, you're too cheesy. That thing didn't even get me."
Ander walked confidently as he looked out into the woods.
Might have noticed something
Even without his glasses he could still see at a further distance.
I held my gun close to me, finger on the trigger.
It was somber this time of year...
Ander walking quietly and rhythmically...
Even with the sun in the late after noon, the light still managed to be on him.
"Destin." He muttered
"Mmm?" I gazed over
"I see a hoard near by." He pointed off, "We better hide."
"Okay mochi." I nodded as we started to walk faster down the road.
~
I saw a gas station a head and quickly ran over.
The light was starting to fade and the door was being an ass.
I was hitting the plywood held door with my shoulder.
