Reina opened her violet eyes and squinted at the ceiling and tiredly mumbled, "Ugh, what time is it now?".

Her room was cold  and dark with the early signs of fall, but as she looked around the room it began to brighten slowly with early morning glow, touching the edges of her ceiling, and warming the room slightly enough for her eyes to see better.

She had been awake all night with anxiety after her father had handed her the necklace. She still couldn't fathom why her father would give her such an awful thing and ask her to keep quiet about it! Wouldn't it just be better if he didn't have it in the first place? All she could do throughout the night was just sigh in annoyance and because she had worried about who might possibly find out and who may have accidentally seen the handoff, she hadn't been able to sleep at all.

Once again she raised a hand to her head pushing on her tired eyes. Maybe she could skip training today? She was so exhausted now, what with the dreams constantly plaguing her and now this... she wanted to be alone for a while to think and hopefully find some way to rest.

Reina sat up in bed and sat for a while, gathering the will to move and finally slid off the edge plopping her feet onto the chilly tiled floor. She went to her walk-in closet and found her training cloths, slipping them on quietly. Putting on her boots on she stood up, tied up her hair into a barely manageable bun and left the house.

Reina's house was already on the fringe of their city, so it was easy to slip into the forest that rested conveniently in her backyard without having to worry about anyone bothering her. Pushing through the thick foliage, she paused, tilting her head to the side and listened intently, stopping her own breathing from polluting the silence. Hearing only the regular sounds of forest creatures she exhaled and she slipped in a little farther, pausing every few minutes or so until she was deep enough in to be safely alone and unseen before she let the transformation take over her.

Transforming into her other form was the best part of her life, let alone the best part of the last few weeks. This form allowed her to vent her frustrations and stress in a whole different way than she could in the stuffy life she had to pretend in. So as her bones elongated and stretched she could hardly keep in the exuberant laugh. Her flesh expanded and grew and changed into the beautiful obsidian color that was her dragon. She let out a long and contented sigh from her newly formed snout and shook her whole body like a dog does water to wash away her worries. In this form only did she ever really feel like herself.

Returning to the present she spread her wings and took off, loving the feel of her strong muscles as they raised her body from the ground and a small pace above the treetops. Reina glanced around her nervously as she flew towards the border of her clans land. She was always unsure if she had ever gone far enough in to make sure nobody found her out.

To fly in her land was strictly prohibited unless it was for training or you had obtained direct permission granted by none other than His Majesty himself. Because permission was so rarely granted, flying was never seen now and her father said he had had to watch as the clan had slowly lost their ability to remember how to fly and how to change. These days, flying was near on a myth and so it would be instantly noticed if someone saw her and know that she was breaking the rules. Because of this she had to be as discreet as she could be while flying. Doing anything for pleasure might as well not allowed she thought grumpily, since flying was seen as a waste of a peasants time and a potential act of betrayal for those in the upper class.

If anyone were to see her flying right now, she and her father would be beyond in deep trouble. So Reina had to always make sure that she wasn't being followed or that no one was out while she took flight. She only allowed herself to sneak off once, twice max, a month to fly through the trees. She knew that anyone and everyone wouldn't hesitate to snitch her out in a second since another law in her clan and among their allies was that anyone who didn't tell what they saw and it was found out that they had known about it and chosen to say nothing, their entire family would be wiped out and if any survived, they and future generations would be thrown into the dungeons for the rest of their life.

So Reina kept her sharp eyes peeled, flicking around as she flew to ensure that no one was watching. The only place that she had found where she felt any type of safe was across the border into svetu ally territory, so she flew fast, allowing her wings to glide silently when she could to reduce the sound she made as she finally made it into safer territory.

Once across the border she inhaled the tangible, beautifully clear air filled with the freedom she loved, and spun in triumph. Letting out a powerful roar that shook the trees now far beneath her.

His darkened blue eyes followed the newly transformed dragon across the sky as she flew barely above the treetops with barely a whisper in the air.

The young man ran a rough, tanned, hand through his shaggy blonde hair in frustration. He would have to report this to his father.

Suddenly he let out a shrill whistle. He would have to make sure that this she-dragon learned her lesson for her disobedience.

When two large male dragons dropped to the forest floor, their claws ripping at the sod, beside the man, he stated to them " Try not to kill her" and gestured for them to follow the girl and they took off with thunderous wings.

Rebellion was not tolerated, no
matter who it might be.
