Escape

"I do not think that was a good idea." Etat said as he dashed down a hallway.

"You know what, I didn't ask you." I growled, glancing back. They were chasing me, splitting up. They know this building better than I do, so I have to outsmart them. I decided. "Hey, Etat, didn't you say you had access to all sorts of advanced tech here?" I asked, an idea sparking in my head.

"Yes, but I don't think. . ." I cut him off.

"Ok, when I jump out the widow, catch me." I instructed. At the end of the hall was a large window, open to let in fresh air. There was a screen, but I didn't think it would be that bad. Right as I got close to the window, a kid in a spandex suit dropped down in front of me.

"Sorry about this." He said and trust his arms towards me. I saw something white shoot from his wrists, and dove onto the ground. Whatever it was passed over my head and he made a confused sound. Sorry. I thought jumping up and punching him as hard as I could in the face. He groaned and tried to grab me. I jumped aside and shoved him into another man who was carrying a bow and quiver of arrows. He dropped his knife, which I grabbed and used to cut open the screen. Once it was open I hopped up on the sill and looked down. The distance was dizzying, and I hesitated. The red light began to wrap around my wrists, and I jumped, holding onto Etat.

"Etat!" I shrieked as I plummeted down the side of the building. Something grabbed my waist, and I was jerked to a stop. I looked up. The red head, Nat, had some sort of wire binding me, and she stood at a window, holding it so I wouldn't fall. "Etat, get me out of here!" I commanded panicking as the man with a bow began to climb down the wire.

"Below you." He replied. I looked down. Hovering right below me was a robot that looked like a man. "Cut your wire, and I will fly you away." Etat said from the bot's iron face. Right, the knife. I looked around for it. I had dropped it when I fell. Looking back up I saw the man was half way down the wire. It was only attached to my back pack, which was something I hated to loose, but what choice did I have. I slipped out of my pack, and into the waiting arms of the bot.

"Get out of here, hurry! Cross a country, I don't care." I growled. Etat nodded, rockets emerging from his feet and we shot away. I wished I could have brought my pack. All that was in there was my water bottle, a sweatshirt, a couple of my favorite action figures, and a stuffed bunny which I took everywhere.

"It appears we are being followed." Etat said. I looked back. A jet was lifting off of the tower, and three men were flying through the air in some sort of suit, one had wings.

"No kidding!" I snapped, fear burning a hole in my hope. "Try and disable to jet and those suits. I don't want to kill them, I just want to get away."

"Right away." Missiles flew out of the sky past us and began hitting the jet and the men in suits. The three men went down quickly. "How far away do you want to go?" Etat asked as I looked forward to avoid getting motion sickness.

"Other side of the world. Pick a small town or something. Somewhere where they can't find me." My brain whirled as I tried to think of any other commands. "Um make sure they can't track me either." The robot's head gave a jerky nod.

"Done." I took a deep breath of relief.

Night came quickly, and Etat was carrying me over some ocean. I didn't bother to ask any questions at this point. I was angry, hurt(emotionally and physically), and exhausted. Etat was an AI system, so I trusted him about as much as I trusted anyone in this crazy world. I did have only one question, however.

"How soon till we get wherever you're taking me?"

"Approximately five hours." He replied as I shifted to get more comfortable. Well, that's a long time, but I guess flying to the opposite side of the world would make sense. I thought, closing my eyes, letting the wind blow through my blonde hair. I must have dozed off, because all of a sudden, something freezing cold touched my arm and I jumped. Snow fell off of me and I looked around. We were in the middle of a small town, maybe three in the morning, and snow was falling. I was covered in it, so was Etat. What had touched me was the hand of a middle aged man.

"Etat, wake up." I whispered. The robot's eyes glowed as he came to life, and I stood. A bunch of harsh gibberish shot out of the mans mouth.

"He would like to know if you want a place to spend the night." Etat told me, apparently understanding this guy.

"Tell him that would be great." I said.

"Oh, so sorry, I thought you spoke Russian." The man said quickly in English.

"I-it's ok. Um thank you for your offer, that would be great." I said, trying to keep my teeth from chattering. He nodded and turned away beckoning over his shoulder. "Come on Etat." I said, following him. The robot followed me. The man's house was quite large and very warm.

"My name is Vladimir Ian I'm a scientist for the government, but I choose to live here. Now who are you?" Asked my host settling into a chair and gesturing for me to have a seat. I sat thankfully.

"I'm Ashley Victor, I come from another universe, but was kidnapped and brought here." Dr. Ian nodded calmly.

"So tell me, who kidnapped you and why?" Taking a deep breath, I spilled the entire story to him.
