"You have got to be fucking kidding me, already?" Dr. Ian sighed, and Miko hissed slightly.
"Sir, there are young ears in the room." The cat said glancing at me with its green eyes. Dr. Ian covered my ears with his hands and proceeded to scream curse words till his voice was horse, then he removed his hands and sighed.
"Well, I'm gonna get this done as quickly as I can. Miko, keep us updated, I might need you to finish the procedure." He said grabbing the knives. I quickly closed my eyes. There was no pain, surprisingly, but it felt odd to have the blade splitting my skin open and sliding between my flesh. When nothing happened at first, I managed to get up the courage to open my eyes and watch him. He cut six lines in the shape of a star and, using some sort of tweezers, pulled back the flesh and secured it. The next part was especially had to watch, because I could already see my bones in a couple places, but I watched this to. Using surgeon scissors, he began to cut and hollow out a hole in my forearm. The shape of the hollow matched the shape of half of the black gem. Next he moved to my other arm, and worked on completing the cut and hollow. Just as he finished removing the last piece of flesh, pounding came from the downstairs door.
"Looks like our guests have arrived." Miko said calmly.
"Etat, grab my bag and get up here." I commanded quickly, trying not to panic. Using Etat had become like an instinct to me, and I normally forgot I was wearing the glasses. Etat's robot form came up with my bag.
"I do believe the head of the World Security Council is at the front door himself." Etat told us.
"This is worse than I thought, damn it." Growled Dr. Ian throwing on a lab coat. "Miko, finish what I started." He threw open the door.
"Dr. Ian, I believe that resistance will lead to your death." Etat said concerned. "The intentions of the men outside are hostile." I jerked on my bindings.
"Stay up here, maybe they'll think we're gone." I whispered. He couldn't die! Not my only friend in this crazy world. "Stay here!" Miko looked up at his master, tail swishing slightly.
"You don't have to go." He said softly. "Finish the operation and let her test her abilities on them." Dr. Ian shook his head and crouched in front of his cat.
"I can't let them have the child. Who knows what they'll do to her." He whispered, barely loud enough for me to hear. Miko sighed, but jumped into his lap and rubbed his cheeks against the doctors. "Finish what I started, Miko." The cat nodded, tears in its eyes, and ran for the desk and leapt up in front of me.
"No! Dr. Ian, please don't go!" I shouted, jerking against the restraints, tears flowing down my face.
"Good bye Ashley Victor, your a good kid, remember that." He said turning, and shutting the door behind him.
"No!" I shrieked, yanking on my arms, trying desperately to free them. The steel cuffs bit into my skin, causing more blood to flow over them. Miko looked at Etat. The robot held me down as Miko grabbed the stones. Miko dropped the first half into my left wrist and situated it into the correct position. Now I felt pain. My blood turned black and began to boil, literally. Miko released the bindings on my flesh, allowing it to close over the stone.
"Etat," the cat said, sounding close to tears. "Put that band over her wrist to help it heal." He said nodding to one of two thin metal cuffs. Etat did as instructed. The cuff bound my wound shut, though black blood continued to leak out. I sobbed in pain and anger. Dr. Ian shouldn't have to give up his life for me. Why couldn't I just summon my stupid power that he said I had? Loud shouts and gun shots rang from downstairs. Over it, I heard Dr. Ian shouting:
"Leave her alone, she's just a child!" Over and over again. Miko situated the other half in my right arm, and a cuff was closed over that as well. Right as it did, an even louder bang came from downstairs, and Dr. Ian's voice ended. I roared in anger, feeling the power of the stones welling up inside me.
"Okay okay kiddo, we need to get out of here." Miko whispered in my ear as I writhed in the clamps than held me to the desk.
"They will pay!" I snapped back, clenching my fists, rage boiling up inside me. The clamps binding me to the desk exploded and black mist swirled around my wrists. I heard orders, feet thumped up the stairs, and my vision turned dark red.
"Uh oh." Miko muttered behind me. I clenched and un-clenched my fists as I stood and faced the doorway. Black mist swirled up from the ground and twisted around my hands. I'd seen this sort of stuff happen in the movies and comics I'd used to read at home. Just stay in control of yourself, and don't hurt Miko or Etat. I reminded myself through the fog of hate. In the back of my mind, I felt the men running up the stairs, guns at the ready. The door was smashed open, and I threw out one hand, palm up, middle finger pointed back at me, and the rest of my fingers splayed. My cut burned like fire, and I enjoyed the pain as I watched a writhing bolt of black smoke fly from my wrist and hit the on coming soldiers. BANG! The floor boards cracked, and their bodies went flying in all directions, mostly back out the door.
"Stay close, Etat, and keep an eye on Miko." I ordered, advancing to the doorway and looking down the curved staircase to the door. The head of the World Security Council took one look at me, and fear flashed across his face. He immediately took off out the door, but I'd already been able to tell that it had been his own gun that killed Dr. Ian.
"Take her!" He yelled, voice fading into the distance. The soldiers were edging away, guns pointed at me. I growled, drawing on the power of the stones in my wrists. All the glass in the house shattered. Windows exploded around us, but I ignored the hail of shards as I came down the stair case. Somehow, the E.T.A.T. glasses were still intact.
"You took the wrong side, and with that comes the price." The stones power roared inside me, moving my limbs, as if we shared one mind. My hands slammed together, and thunder echoed through the room, and everything went black.
