A/N: I am aware that the Yule Ball normally takes place on December 25th, but for the story's sake, I pushed it to the beginning of January. Happy Reading!!

Draco sat on the bed, and didn't move for what felt like an eternity. He was shaken from his trance when a knock came at the door.
"Come in."
Ron slowly opened the door and closed it behind him, putting his hands in his pockets.
"You alright? We heard some shouting."
Draco looked at him with hollow eyes, "No Weasley, I'm not alright. I'm bloody...broken."
Draco leaned forward and put his head in his hands, feeling the weight of the bed shift as Ron sat beside him.
They sat in silence for a few minutes before Ron spoke up, "Who was she?"
Draco cleared his throat, "She was a student of mine. My TA, actually, and a couple months ago we began somewhat of a relationship."
Ron's eyes narrowed, "A relationship? With your student? Malfoy-"
"Weasley I will literally Avada Kedavra your ass into next week if you so much as breathe another syllable. Now is not the time to pass judgement. She is eighteen years old."
Ron rolled his eyes, "Long as she's not a minor," He muttered under his breath, "So what, did she just break up with you?"
Draco nodded, "Out of the blue. Everything was going great, or at least I thought so. I just don't understand, she gave me no explanation. What am I supposed to do?"
"It's probably for the best, I mean, you put your whole career at risk for this girl. You can at least wait until she graduates to continue."
"She told me we were done for good, even after graduation." Draco bit his lip to try and contain his emotion.
"Bloody hell man," Ron ran his fingers through his hair, "Then just give her time. Whatever her reason, maybe she just needs some space and she'll realize her mistake."
The clock on the wall chimed, "We should join everyone before they start to wonder. Harry should be here soon, if he hasn't arrived already."
"Yeah, ok, let's go. Oh and Weasley?"
"Yeah?"
"Don't mention a word of this to Potter, the last thing I need is him trying to intervene."
This made Ron laugh, "You got it, Malfoy."

The weeks that ensued made Amelia felt like she was encased in a fog. Many a night, she had spent crying herself to sleep.
Ivory and Alan did their best to cheer her up, but it only served as a temporary distraction from her despair.
What made matters even worse, was the Yule Ball was only a few days away, and the last thing Amelia felt like doing was plastering on a fake smile for a couple hours.
But Ivory was persistent in making her go.
"Babes, you will regret it if you don't go. What's the alternative, eh? You cry and eat ice cream alone all night? I don't think so."
They sat in their dorm, in the living room, going back and forth on the matter.
"Ivory, if I go, I'll lose it. I'll see him and just have a fucking break down."
