Xavier and Blue arrived to the Commonworld about 20 minutes later. It would have been much less, but Blue insisted that using his own Portal to get there was going to bring them too much attention; making him portal to Blue's Universe in order to take the portal mashine to the Commonworld like a 'proper monster'.
It would be very interesting to see whether everyone was a 'proper monster' once they could open portals at will.
Regardless of 'proper behaviour' and following 'portal traveling customs' that the visitors apparently created, the two skeletons entered the waiting room underground, taking the stairs up to exit through the booth to the plaza.
The plaza was well taken care of, a gardener trimming the bushes near them as they set foot on the gravel path leading off the freshly trimmed lawn around them.
"Good evening, sirs!" greeted the gardener with a smile. The dog monster's voice was gruff, the wide hay hat sitting atop of his head moving aside to allow his bright eyes to gaze upon the two. "It's nice to see you again."
Xavier gave the man a kind smile bending down slightly and shaking the joyful worker's hand. "The sentiment is returned." he commented.
"Why so dressed up, if I might ask?" quired Boneley. "It's not near any anniversaries I can recall, is it?"
"No, nothing of the sort-"
"We Are Going To Attend A Dinner With Some Of The Other AU Representatives Today!" cheered Blue. His smile was as bright as always.
"That is true." finished Xavier with a sigh.
Sometimes Xavier missed the old multiverse..
"Ah, I see. Welp! I won't hold you any longer. I hope the dinner goes well. Goodbye good sirs!" expressed the man pleasantly. The man nodded his head as if agreeing to himself before waving at the two.
"Farewell, Boneley." commented Xavier with a wave, now taking a step further away and going on his way towards the city.
"Bye Friend!" exclaimed Blue with his usual amount of enthusiasm, bidding the other goodbye as he went after his tall friend.
"Hyper as usual, I see." commented the dark giant with a relaxed smile.
"The Great Blue Is Always Filled With Energy! Nothing Is Too Tiring Of A Task For Me! Mweh Heheh!"
Blue's proud grin as his magic made his scarf wave as if it were a cape in the wind was honestly adorable.
Xavier chuckled good heartedly.
Aborably hilarious.
"Of course." he said, his eyes trailing forward to a certain group of monsters.
¬
"Tick, put the sign down." said a teal jelly monster to their friend. Their tone sounded like they were so done with everything.
A brick red crocodile monster in dark ripped jeans, a gray hoodie with a jacket on top, and green sneakers turned towards the jelly monster, sign in hand. "This shit is shaped like an axe."
A black and white cat monster with a swirled fur pattern spoke up, their body trembling from laughter. "But Jay, it's an axe."
Another cat monster, this one a Perisan with light gray patterns. The fluffy monster moved backwards as they dodged a swing from the crocodile. "It's a sign."
The crocodile turned to the Persian, looking offended. His mouth was partly open as he looked at him. "How dare you." he spoke as he cradled the sign in his arms. "Don't listen to him Annie, you're an axe, no matter what the meanie says."
The black and white cat monster let out a chocked laugh. "You named it!?"
A racoon monster just stood there, watching this take place with a look of discomfort. They were an employee from the shop the sign was about, if their similarly shaped name tag was of any importance.
"It's not 'it' its a 'her', and she doesn't like you."
The Persian just groaned.
"Tick, please. You are causing a scene." spoke the jelly monster, voice sounding just as tired as before, just with the added background noise of laughter from the rest.
"I'M NOT LEAVING HER-"
"Sir? We have actual axes in-"
"Annie is a real axe, stop saying she's not you're making her insecure-"
¬
His soul panged with nostalgia and yearning. The pain amplified by the memories of what he can never have again.
Xavier turned towards Blue, a pleasant smile forced on his face despite the aching grief hiding behind his eyelights. The small skeleton was his friend just as he was before but he just.. He just wasnt the same. "A member of the royal guard is always ready for everything, isn't that right?"
Blue beamed, laughing with a prideful grin. "It Is!"
There was a moment of silence between the two as Blue led the way. It wasn't an awkward silence though. Xavier's thoughts trailed to a time before the multiverse reset, - could it even be called that? - the fading chatter of the group of friends and awkward employee only fueling the downward spiral of grief.
The silence didn't last long, broken by Blue's inquiry.
"Are You Excited For Dinner?" he asked, turning to face his thoughtful friend's face.
Xavier moved his eyelights towards Blue, sensing their steady gaze towards him. "As excited as I ever am, Blue."
The sound of their shoes clicking against the pavement filled the silence between them, incomprehensible chatter from all around them making it seem much more lively.
Blue elbowed Xavier, his height bringing his elbow up to Xavier's mid-femur at best. "Cheer Up, Friend! It's Not That Bad!"
Xavier sighed, a small smile on his face despite the grief and slight annoyance he felt. "Perhaps for you, Blue. But I do not need to eat. I have told you this before. The multiverse maintains my body perfectly well."
A few heads turned to face the drastically different, yet well known duo, greeting flying from all sides as they passed. Xavier did his best to passively greet the people back, as did Blue.
"You Need A Bit Of Normalcy In Your Life, Xavier. You May Be A God, But Void Knows How You'd be Doing Without This."
Xavier could do nothing but sigh. Blues voice was stern. "You are right, I suppose."
"As Always." he piped in. His smug expression was one Xavier couldn't help but roll his eyelights at.
"However, I still believe doing this so regularly is a waste of time." Xavier fixed the sleeve of his button up shirt. It had folded inwards at some point during this trip. "Speaking of, which restaurant will be hosting this dinner? It was Edge's turn to pick."
"It's Not A Waste Of Time If It Has This Many Benefits, Xavier." said Blue pointedly before sighing. The subject was always dropped, despite how much Xavier complained. It was kind of amusing. Almost like he knew he couldn't win. Blue smirked at the thought. "We Are Actually Going To 'Hot n' Spice' Today."
Xavier raised a bone-brow. "The classy Mexican cuisine themed restaurant?" he wondered out loud. "Didn't think he would choose a place with so much utensil-free food."
"No One Did. Even Red Was Somewhat Surprised By The Choice."
Xavier looked at his vermillion button up shirt and then at Blue, amusement in his expression. "And here I assumed I dressed too casually for his tastes."
Blue chuckled lightly. "You Are Fine. Many Of The Others Probably Didn't Even Bother To Change Out Of Their Everyday Outfits."
The two took one last turn in the road before facing the restaurant.
