~~Flashbacks~~

"Wakey wakey," Toya said while shaking me awake. I groaned and sat up. "Huh, Toya? Good morning."

"Happy Birthday!" He exclaimed.

I paused for a moment, "It's my birthday?"

"It is January 11th," he said with a chuckle.

"So it is my birthday?"

"It's your first birthday with us! You're," He paused. "seven, right? Shoto is seven right?"

I chuckled. "Yea, I'm seven."

"That means you will get seven presents from me!" He exclaimed before running out of the room.

The day started off with breakfast, for the first time, since the day I arrived, the whole family sat together. Shoto and I got our first presents of the day.

After breakfast, I walked up to him. "Happy birthday, Shoto."

He paused, and his face visibly reddened. He glanced at his mom before looking at me again. "Happy birthday, __-___." He said quickly before running away. I sighed.

"Don't look so glum," Toya said while ruffling my hair. "He's just shy."

"yea," I mumbled. "I see."

Toya, Shoto, and I sat together in the garden. It was our birthday, to be specific, our first birthday without our mom. That morning, no one showed up for breakfast. I woke up with a stack of presents by my bed, with cards from the family, but no one bothered to see us.

"Cheer up guys," Toya said while ruffling our hair. "It's been a rough year for everyone. You know everyone still loves you both."

"I guess," I mumbled before pulling my knees to my chest.

"Hey," Shoto said. "At least we have each other."

I was shocked. We had started to get closer, but he never initiated a conversation with me before.

I smiled. "Yea, you're right."

I spent my whole birthday training alone in the courtyard. After Toya died, I became depressed, more so than before. Shoto walked out and sat by the door, watching me. After a while, he stopped me. "Hey," he said. "You should hydrate." He held out a bottle of water.

I stared at it for a moment, before taking it. "Thanks."

"Why are you training? You didn't even come to breakfast."

"I just," I paused. "Wanna be alone."

Shoto paused for a moment. "I know you and him were close, and you're upset, we all are, but he wouldn't have wanted you to be alone today."

I sighed. "You're right. He may be gone, but at least we have each other."

"That sounds oddly familiar," Shoto said.

"You said that to me once," I said. "Race you inside?"

"You're on."

(last year)

"Happy birthday!" Sakura exclaimed with a smile once I woke up.

"It's my birthday?" I mumbled. After a moment, it hit me. "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!" I exclaimed before jumping out of bed. I ran into Shoto's room. He was still asleep in his bed, so I did the only sensible thing. I ran and jumped on him.
