You can do this.
You can do this, Winona.
Just one more date.
One last one.
Okay, no.
I'm not going to another date.
I'm going to tell Mom I'm not doing this anymore.
-----------------------------------
"Mom. I'm home," my voice echoed and I heard the sound of my mother's slippers.
"Winona, aren't you supposed to be at that restaurant?"
"Goddamn it, Mom. The only reason you're doing this is because Dad got remarried before you and your son also got married before me."
She crosses her arms, looks down, and sighs.
"Listen, Mom. Aren't we happy? We're rich, kind of famous, beautiful and we are comfortable here. Are you satisfied yet?" I emphasized the 'satisfied yet'.
"Mom, I'm sick of this. I'm 23. Let me live my own life, please. I don't want to get married, I just want a boyfriend who loves me and wants to spend time with me. I don't want to go to that date you told me to go to yesterday."
"Winona, please. I promise, this is the last one. Okay? I promise. You know I keep my promises. Come on. Just one last one. Please?"
She gives me a look that I can't say no to.
"Fine. But this is the last time you ask me. If this one doesn't work out with me then I'm going to find my own boyfriend by myself, touché?"
I walk away after the silence and I went upstairs.
I choose a pair of black leggings and a beige silk shirt.
"Shit. I'm late."
It was 2:47. My date was going to arrive in 3 minutes.
I grab my favorite pair of black lace up heels and slip them on.
"Mom I'm gonna go now, wish me luck and hope I don't spill wine on the guy like last time."
"'Kay, bye honey. Remember that tea etiquette I taught you the other day."
"Ugh, oh my god, okay," I muttered. "Bye Mom." I hollered and I dasi ran ran ran all the way to the bus stop.
-------------------------------------
"Uh, hi miss, can I-"
"Good afternoon miss. Can I have your reservation or would you like a new table? New tables might take a longer wait because as you can see we are fully occupied at the moment." The attendant said while plastering a wide smile on her face.
"Uhh, no, I'm actually just here for a reservation for 2:50 pm, table for two." Thank god my stutter didn't say 'Hey bitch' when I was talking.
"Right this way, miss."
"Thank you." I smiled lightly. This must be a high class restaurant Mom reserved for us. She has great taste when it comes to blind date reservations and restaurants, but for fashion she's a goddamn failure.
I looked around and I saw many people, more of them were couples. Gold flashed here and silver flashed there. Diamond seemed to glance at me while I was following the attendant.
I should've brought my ring.
But it brings too many memories.
My eyes blur slightly, warm drops of water threatening to leave them.
And I blink them back.
"Here you are, miss. Have a wonderful meal. Another attendant will come shortly to take your order." The attendant smiles sweetly again.
His back is facing me.
I walk to the other side of the table and keep my head down.
When I look up to meet his eyes...
It's him.
